Two Rothko paintings fetch over $76 million at auction

A pair of paintings by iconic abstract expressionist artist Mark Rothko sold Monday for a whopping $76.5 million, the auction house Sotheby's said.

Rothko's "Untitled," a blue and purple oil painting from 1970 sold for $39.9 million. It was estimated to earn up to $20 million.

heres the fairly well known caricaturist David Levine's take on ROthko and his art...

Levine's always been a favorite of mine.

When I'm not On FR...I also do a great deal of photopgraphy..

This unretouched.....photo of the eye in the sky is one of my favorites.



Another favorite....a simple photo of the very edge of a Soap Bubble!

the eye is what caught my attention....in the cloud photo





the vibrant soap bubble photo was purely an attempt to capture the color...the outlandish "dynamics" and light ...at least conciously...

I see the eagle now but didnt when I made the photograph.I was too stunned by the realistic look of the “eye” in the clouds

I dropped my jaw and nearly dropped my camera when I saw the eye.
