Red Lobster admits defeat after failed attempt to appeal to people who didn't like seafood
UK Daily Mail ^ | November 3, 2014 | David McCormack

Struggling restaurant chain Red Lobster is going back to its roots with a new menu that’s set to feature more dishes featuring lobster. A revamped menu announced on Monday removes several poorly received non-seafood dishes including Spicy Tortilla Soup and a Wood-Grilled Pork Chop. These non-seafood dishes had been added by the chain's previous owner, Darden Restaurants Inc., in the vain hope of attracting people who don't like seafood as sales declined.

I like Red Lobster. The one by me is always packed. Even when you go early. I think the fried shrimp is really good. I think it’s gotten better over the years.

Real, fresh lobster that is well prepared could not possibly be overrated. A nice, hot, CT-style roll (with drawn butter) is just about a perfect meal.

Red Lobster is OK. For when a chain restaurant will do and there aren’t any REAL sea food restaurants nearby.

We've gone there a few times a year and never had a bad meal. There are many REAL seafood restaurants in our area (New Jersey shore) and frankly only a few are worth the higher prices they command.

I live in Wilmington, NC

I'm just west of Raleigh and I'm jealous of you. Terrific city.
Been there a few times. Like Hieronymus Seafood Restaurant, on Market St., among others.

Never much liked Red Lobster. About five years ago we had a meal there so bad my wife called the manager over and dressed her down. My wife is usually fairly mild-mannered, but they wrecked both our entrees. My opinion...their food is just not very good. And unlike many Freepers, I like a lot of chains.

Obamacare is killing Darden restaurants. Along with other middle class food chains.

There’s a small chain down here, Bonefish Grill,

Same company runs Carraba's, Outback, etc. Bloomin Brands, Bonefish Grill is one of their concepts. Good martinis.

Red Lobster would do well to make some changes. When a plate
of their food gets to it’s destination it usually looks like
it has been sitting under the heat lamp for several hours.
Bad form.

I live in Easten NC too. Rural area. Folks around here are all about seafood. Hopefully, RL will probably will never put an Eastern NC fish stew with eggs, or fried hickory shad on there menu. Some things are best left to experts.

Some time ago, somebody came up with a brilliant, relatively inexpensive and elegant idea. Find a quiet patch of ocean away from the coast, drop several nets of different sizes in it, and raise fish at sea. When the fish are mature, raise the inner net, and you have a boatload of live fish. The outer nets are to keep the fish predators out.

When they set up an operation like this, they found out that the fish gained a little more weight than the food they were given. There was no need to expensively clean or oxygenate, as the current did that.

They estimated that a few square miles of such aquaculture could provide seafood for millions of people. They even followed up the idea with another, to breed and release fish to repopulate wild species with healthier, disease free fish, helping the whole ecosystem.

Bonefish Grill is a much better choice for seafood.

Love the Bang-Bang Shrimp.

the quality of the food is down and so are the portions. I have not been to a Red Lobster I think in more that two years.

Clam strips are a communist perversion invented by Howard Johnson and foisted on middle America.

In New England clams with bellies, Mandatory, are either breaded or batter dipped, Red Lobster has neither.
