A father of eight has sparked controversy by refusing to save money for his childrens college education.
Guerilla Parenting author David T. Fagan told the Washington Post that college is 'a lot of wasted time' and if his children want to attend, they will have to pay for it themselves.
The 37-year-old marketing entrepreneur, whose family lives in Orange County, California, added to MailOnline: 'The focus is too much on a piece of paper and not enough on self-reliance.'

“I hope the kids have made dad known that they will not support him if he is infirm or destitute in his old age. “

Apples and oranges. Taking care of someone who can’t take care of themselves is much different than college tuition.
I’m sure these parents wouldn’t kick the kids aside if they were physically unable to care for themselves.
.
Don’t you just love it when some one makes a post and then denies saying what the post obviously says.
Did you read the article or any of my posts before this other idiot jumped in?
Obviously not.
The guy states that he doesn’t think that a college eduction is worth anything. Not that he cannot afford it.
I am never sure what people will do.
I just know making declarations and being absolute in what you will do and not do to help your family can have repercussions.
You pays your money and you takes your chances.
I had a relative who went to the hereafter full of self-righteousness and indignation about all the life lessons he taught his kids, none of whom had seen him for a few years nor did they attended the wedding. never saw anything like it.
What part of my answers do you not understand? Specifically?
His reason has nothing to do with. They can get off their ass and work their way through school like thousands of kids whose parents can’t afford it do.
Please show me where I said that parents should pay for their kids college.
Jesus Christ Almighty...do you people read? Or do you just pick a comment and run from there.
You make a statement, I give an answer. And then you say the answer—what the friggin guy the story about said—and you jump ugly on me.
Whats up with that?
Take a breath and read the damned article.
Don’t you love it when idiots jump on a thread without reading the article.
Now you two go over in the corner and play your little games together.
For the folks who are arriving late to the argument here is the post that has the two red necks worked up:
Actually, if a parent is not willing to make sacrifices for their children they should not expect a whole lot in return.
I do not mean a parent has to pay for college. But this guy sounds like a jerk. A parent should be willing to give up stuff for their childrens progress.
So, the answer to the question posed by E Pluribus DBag, is no...I did not say what you said I said.
I read the article...and I read you post. I just don’t agree with it. You are trying to say you didn’t say what you obviously said.....I don’t blame you for running away from it...I would too!! And by the way ...when you say if some one doesn’t pay for their kids college they should not be surprised if their kids abandon them in their old age....you are, in (a left handed way) saying they should pay for their kids college. And yes I read....evidently you don’t read your own posts!!!
Makes sense to me.
Raising 7 sibs for each child is giving them something precious.
I had the opportunity for full boat a couple of times through family and schools. I waited until I was ready and put myself through. People who put themselves through are different, more focused, goal directed, and better able to manage themselves.
Is he saving anything for his kids? If not he’s a selfish a-hole IMO
I take it I’m one of “the Rednecks” you speak of....If that was meant as an insult it’s not. Calling E Pluribus a dirt bag is pretty low....insults are what one does when his argument has no validity!!!
So this cat is teaching “self-reliance “ to his children by not paying for higher ed and living in laguna nigel? Foolish really. He talks sales but many sales jobs require a college degree.
But you are proud of your accomplishment, as you should be.
I agree; as it is, they get twelve years of free schooling and of course, the internet provides endless information. So it’s not like they’re without resources. I do think that trade school is an important factor in maturity and students are wrecking university because they’re treating it like four years of recess from adulthood. If they had to pay in full I am sure they would be more mature and learn something practical.
Parents aren’t legally obligated to pay for their kid’s schooling.
I do think there’s a correlation; a sense of duty was instilled at an earlier age and a larger tolerance for foibles of old age and a clearer understanding that childhood is not supposed to last forever.
I wonder where it is too; there’s for some reason an expectation that parents are supposed to bankrupt themselves for schooling so their kids can get ‘fashionable’ degrees.
“nor did they attended the wedding.”
What wedding?
.
Sorry funeral
