Split pea soup or lentil soup is innately satisfying comfort food.

Also black bean. Maybe we have a genetic craving for legumes.

I even like tofu, if it’s in a good sauce.

I’ve had Buddhist meals that ere cooked “In the style of” Shanhai Steamed fish, or Peking Duck. All the sauces and prep the same. They were delicious Chinese-style meals. Of course a good Chinese chef could cook dirt, and it would be delicious!

True. One of my objections to some Chinese dishes is fish or meat with the bones and shells and all. If they made the same dish vegetarian, I'd probably love it.

But!!!! Fish cheeks are the best part of the fish! I alway steam “head on” fish!

Keeping the head on a fish keeps the good juices and flavor in the fish!

That article hits on one of my pet peeves — cookbooks that don’t admit how long some recipes really take to get the results they claim. Sweating or caramelizing onions is one a lot of recipes just sort of toss in as if it’ll take a few minutes. Not so!

To get back on topic, I would love to know how many people complaining actually followed the blog, and how many people who followed the blog truly believed that the author was a black thug. I would guess most of the followers who actually cooked the food figured it was a persona of some sort.

OTOH, vegans tend liberal, and I have known some crazy-naive liberals, so maybe not.

My tofu-hating dad has liked everything tofu I’ve offered him. However I use tofu sort of the way I do mild white cheese — it’s a neutral to balance out something zingy. Have never tried anything that was basically tofu with a sauce or fried cubes of tofu or whatever. But I’m fine with it as an element in a more complicated dish.

This thread has me craving lentils with onions and sesame oil. Yum!

I think the word “thug” was identified as a derogatory term for black men by the black race-baiters during the Trevon debacle. Previously, it was just a term for a thug of any race, with no racial component, but the Sharpton types decided to make hay by claiming anybody who referred to Travon (or any other black punk) as a “thug” was a racist. I refuse to let an illiterate criminal buffoon like Sharpton dictate my language.

I believe it, but I’m just not hungry enough to eat things that are looking at me.
