I’ve had Buddhist meals that ere cooked “In the style of” Shanhai Steamed fish, or Peking Duck. All the sauces and prep the same. They were delicious Chinese-style meals. Of course a good Chinese chef could cook dirt, and it would be delicious!

a good Chinese chef could cook dirt, and it would be deliciousTrue. One of my objections to some Chinese dishes is fish or meat with the bones and shells and all. If they made the same dish vegetarian, I'd probably love it.
