The Mormon church has admitted that its founder was a polygamist who married a 14-year-old girl, breaking a lengthy silence about its history.
Joseph Smith, who wrote the Book of Mormon and established the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is thought to have married as many as 50 women, but for years the senior church officials did not address the subject.
But this week the organization acknowledged that the practice took place, and named Helen Mar Kimball, 'who was sealed to Joseph several months before her 15th birthday.'
Estimates have placed the total number of Smith's wives between 27 and 50, though the church said it is impossible to say for sure.
However, it suggested many of his marriages may not have involved sex, and that Smith was reluctant to adopt the practice, which was eventually banned in 1890.

Makes one wonder how much involvement the LDS has with the same sex movement, to justify their dirty polygamist past perhaps????
Getting married at 14 wasn’t all that odd at the time...
People got married much younger back then. 15 or 16 wasn’t uncommon.
That isn’t so bad....just as long as it’s just one and not 50?
People also usually just married one person at a time. Not 27 - 50!!!!!
Getting married at 14 was common back then. A man getting married to 35+ women who are 14 years of age, at the same time was not common back then.
Census data shows the following:
Between 1800 and 1900, women generally married for the first time between the ages of 20 and 22. Less is known about the average age of first marriages for men during the 19th century. In 1890, when the U.S. Census Bureau started collecting marriage data, it was recorded that the average age of a first marriage for men was 26 years, and the average age of marriage for women was 22 years.

Even if 14 was “legal”, it certainly wasn’t normal. If anything it was considered “cradle robbing”, especially for a man almost thrice her age.
And are we forgetting that little word “POLYGAMY” and the fact the LDS is magically saying “but they didn’t have sex together”? Like that’s going to soften the blow any.
Next move is to open the doors to polygamy and underage marriage. Bet Harry Reid is looking for a new bride already..
I know someone whose great-grandparents married when they were both 13. This was in the early 1900s.
Yet the article chose to focus on the age, not the number.
Wrong. Read my other post.
History for most Americans only starts on 7 December 1941. Beyond that...it’s a hopeless thing. Most of the real history of the 1920s and 1930s....are captured on three pages of text, and people have no grasp of period.
I was reading over Lincoln’s mother, her period in North Carolina, and the “deal” to get her hooked to Tom Lincoln. At the time when the arrangement was being worked...she was thirteen years old, and generally felt to already be pregnant.
You can find dozens of marriages along the Oregon Trail where some fourteen year old teen is married by the end of the eight-month trip to some kid in another wagon.
I thought the article was trying to focus on the fact that Joe did not have sex with them.
“However, it suggested many of his marriages may not have involved sex”
COUGH COUGH COUGH horsesh!t COUGH COUGH COUGH
Yea right! What man has 35+ wives and does not the the freak on with them?
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!
I seem to recall another pedophile polygamist saying the same thing about 1400 years ago about his 6 year old bride.
Absolutely amazing how starkly contrasted the deceiver can make things appear, depending on if he puts on his light disguise, or his natural dark.
I’m sorry but that that is the only way that dweeb could get laid. He had to form his own cult and there were women dumb enough to fall for it.
1000 years ago, girls between ages 12-15 were married all over the world. Average Life expectancy was very short, south of age 30. So as soon as the girls began menstruating, off they went to be married.
Did the Mormons stone any women to death? Did they behead non believers? In which year this mr. Smith died? I confess, I know nothing about Mormons.
Along with Golden books and rocks
Somehow Mormons are blind this. It should be clear to anyone that Smith was no prophet but a man driven by greed and lust.
