Help Freepers! How can we effectively completely eliminate fleas from the house. We are getting rid of the cat immediately. A long time ago, one could buy Lindane, but I believe that has been banned. Would appreciate any advice on how to rid the house permanently of the little buggers. To save you words, I already know about he egg cycle thing from previous experience. Just can't find any Lindane.
You need to treat your couches and chairs as well, where kitty my jump or lay. You should also treat the outside of your house and yard. We had the same problem briefly while in Texas, but easily cured the problem using a systematic approach for the house, yard, and kitty, with a couple follow-ups to get any hatchings. It worked fine and kitty could still run outside.
Sal, I give you all the credit in the world...I love animals, always have, but insects don’t get my love. You know I’ve mentioned my bug phobia.
But you, girl, are a TRUE animal lover. :)

So much sharing of infinite cruelty.
There are so many animals suffering, that it’s overwhelming.
My arms are not *that* long.
Right now, I’m trying to get my mom to stop “bombing” her house and yard so savagely.
She cannot abide *any living thing* setting foot in either.
I have seen Katydids land on the side of the house and instantly start going into seizures, there’s *so much* pesticide around.
Aside from being heart breaking to harmless creatures, it can’t be healthy for her.
This will likely make you laugh.
We took the bikes out for a quick cold ride yesterday and about 30 minutes into, I felt something *squirm* inside my tight leather pants.
I touched the spot and felt a definite “somebody” in there.
So, I pulled into a shopping center, ran into the store’s bathroom and yanked down my drawers.
It was a stinkbug, who had apparently decided my stored-away pants were a nice place to over-winter.
It seemed okay except I think I might have hurt one of its legs when I touched it, initially.
I felt terrible about that but now the bug has all of Michaels Arts And Crafts for its winter abode.

There’s some I wouldn’t say I “love” over much, but I let them be, because God apparently had some reason to make them, even if I don’t see the point. :D
One crucial point in flea control is *humidity*.
They can not thrive in a dry environment.
That’s why they always seem to “disappear” during winter months when the heaters dehydrate us all, equally.

I know Jesus will return at some point and the world will be a new Eden. I wonder sometimes what it'll be like not to be afraid of insects. Then I think, He's God, He can do anything. :)
Maybe the information on controlling humidity will be taken to heart. We can hope.
My take on Advantage is that treat the cat and within a period of time the fleas will all die, the treated cat serves as a attractor/collector, and poisoner of them.
People sometimes forget that there is a birthing cycle for fleas to contend with that can cause a short lived reappearance of them.
Parents had an infestation not all that long ago... they got one of those lightbulb hooded units with the attractant sticky paper and were blown away with how well it worked.

I agree about the pesticides, too. I think my current neurological issues might have been caused by pesticide exposure.

Then we had to keep washing all of the sheets, blankets etc for 4-6 weeks on a regular basis (every 3 days???).
And leave the carpet alone for the first day or two, and then vacuum everything (carpet, hardwood, couch) every day for several weeks. (Due to the hatching cycle - and the vacuum motion and heat causes them to hatch).
It was a lot of work - but they guarantee it for a year.
We used sharks with lasers on their heads, but then you have to get rid of them, and the Killer Whales just eat too much fish....
Can you spray that on a dog Joe?
Not directly on them, but it’s fine to use on their bedding.
Five minutes in her house gives me a killer migraine.
I can’t imagine what living there 24/7 does.
Couple weeks ago, I sat on the tall bar stool beside the fridge to have myself a nice swig of milk.
I felt something hop off the collar of my robe, onto my throat.
I thought “stinkbug” but my subconscious was screaming, “No!!! The legs are too far apart!!”.
So, I swatted it off my neck and this HUGE spider flipped in mid-air and landed right-side up on the fridge.
We started at each other for what seemed an eternity, until I flicked it to floor.
It’s probably out there, still.
Wish I could’ve have filmed that to show my mom.

It amazes me how that thing not only did a black flip but could cling to such a smooth surface.
An old cure for fleas is to crank your furnace up as far as it’ll go and then leave the house for the day.
Supposedly kills them.
I haven’t tried it so I can’t say one way or the other.
This kills all kinds of critters.
Kinda funny story...
I bought a large bag of diatomaceous earth from Amazon but the USPS could not leave it at my door as they could not get into the apt building. I complained that UPS could. They did leave it at my door in a day or so but I notice that the bag inside the cardboard box had a small hole in it as if they were testing it for say ... cocaine.
One of my co-workers say that the post office is known to open “suspicious” packages.
I have not been at the airport recently so I do not know if I am on the no fly list.....

LOL. I didn’t realize until not long ago that Borax is not boric acid. I dunno, maybe Borax works for fleas, but I know boric acid does along with lots of other critters.
That’s similar to a treatment for bedbugs, I think.
