Peregrine Honig says she just wanted to help celebrate the hometown team when she designed Lucky Royals boyshorts.
The panties, with Take the Crown and KC across the bottom, were set to be sold in Honigs Birdies Panties shop Tuesday. But Homeland Security agents visited the Crossroads store and confiscated the few dozen pairs of underwear, printed in Kansas City by Lindquist Press.
They came in and there were two guys Honig said. I asked one of them what size he needed and he showed me a badge and took me outside. They told me they were from Homeland Security and we were violating copyright laws.
She thought that since the underwear featured her hand-drawn design that she was safe. But the officers explained that by connecting the K and the C, she infringed on major league baseball copyright. (The officials involved could not be immediately reached for comment.)
They placed the underwear in an official Homeland Security bag and had Honig sign a statement saying she wouldnt use the logo.
We just thought it was something funny we could do, Honig says of the panties. But it was so scary.

I have no words........
good question!
If the underwear was made in China or India or another foreign country, the importation of it violated customs laws. DHS, specifically their ICE (”C” is for customs, “E” for enforcement) which used to be part of the old CBP, does indeed have jurisdiction.
Doesn’t mean that they don’t have better things to do, of course.
I’ve always walked thru Sears and seen tables filled with panties that had the Garfield cartoon character printed on them, and wondered who the adult women were who actually bought them.
they did the same thing about a year ago in a strip club in the suburbs of Boston:
a strip club was giving away counterfeit New England Patriots merchandise.
there were something like 20 officers in on the bust.
they are keeping you safe from wayward strip clubs.
the Department of Homeland Security has the same headcount as the US Marine Corps and they have twice the budget of the Marines.
Thy also have seized improperly imported
Evidently we have discovered the Homeland Security priorities, but is it copyrights or panties?
Someone correct me if I’m wrong, is this not an issue for the civil courts. I would assume DHS would only be involved if this was a criminal matter. I always thought that the offended copyright holder can sue for treble damages, but that is a matter for civil courts, not criminal.
I’m wondering if the badge was authentic and the men from HS or were they from the league who wanted them to sign a paper they wouldn’t produce or sell them?
I agree about the court order....this was a violation of illegal search and seizure as well, without a right to take the items.
The new “Ebola Czar” is under the jurisdiction of Homeland Security. Not the CDC like one would think.
There’s no more Islamists committing terror only Asians committing workplace accidents and the such.
“Evidently we have discovered the Homeland Security priorities, but is it copyrights or panties?”
Well I suppose they have to keep busy until terrorism rears it’s ugly face again. /mega sarcasm
.
They might have more important things to do,
but this is far easier than confronting Islamic terrorism.
They don't. Methinks she just got ripped off by someone.
ping
IIRC, there is some connection between terrorist groups and profits from counterfeit merchandise.
At least 6 federal agencies involved with counterfeit merchandise/copyright laws (including the FDA for fake Rx drugs i.e. Chinese Viagra)...criminal penalties up to 10 years in prison & $2 million fine on 1st offense. Raiding a shop for a few underwear items right after they are put on display seems a bit “gung-ho”...a Royals organization employee must have been in the shop earlier!

Terrorism...that’s a ‘man made disaster’ didn’t HS say?
It Is Time For The Congress To Re-establish its constitutional authority
While the talkies, talk radio show hosts, need to remind US of this.. Members of the House and Senate also seem to forget. While those selected to head various federal departments of government are recomended by the incomming POTUS (president of the United States).
Such candidates are constitutionaly required to be approved by the Senate in a procedure known as advise and consent.. Those appointed then are also sworn to uphold, protect, serve, and support the constitution. Not the executive branch. .
Such appointees can and should refuse any executive order.Or allow the executive branch create a political appointee who over rides their congressional authority. Particularly. If and when that executive order is designed to ignore existing congressional legislation which defines a departments jurisdiction or specific purpose protecting the interests of the country . Which places the country in danger, or minimizes the value of citizenship, or places its citizens in clear and eminent danger.
Therefore they and their respective departments must be held answerable to both houses of congress which funds these operations. And, should be held in contempt, censure, and impeachment and the funds witheld if refused to comply.
Gives the term “Mission Creep” a whole new meaning....
