Rich Shelton loves airplanes and San Francisco, which shows in all his beautiful photos. He was able to take this incredible image of a Blue Angels' F/A-18 zooming through the Golden Gate bridge at Fleet Week in San Francisco.
Great pic. Used to take my kids out on the bridge to watch the Parade of Ships sail underneath during fleet week.
Love it!
I am sure it frightened a few “American Haters” that were on the bridge.
It’s a great picture, but given the height and span of the GGB it isn’t all that great of a feat.
Particularly for someone trained to land on an aircraft carrier AND fly demo team precision maneuvers with less than 2’ distance between other aircraft.
I hope he had permission to do that. I would be one freaked out motorist.
What’s most impressive is the timing of the picture. Must have been measured in the milliseconds.
Doubt there were any - except Muslim tourists. Local Leftists don't trouble themselves to exercise - much less walk across a mile-long bridge in the middle of Fleet Week. :)
True, that.
A couple of the Doolittle Raiders (one of them was Ted Lawson, who wrote 30 Seconds Over Tokyo) flying into Alameda to embark on the USS Hornet, flew their B-25s UNDER the Bay Bridge.
Doolittle, no surprise, apparently didn’t have much of a problem with his guy’s doing that.
yea, that’s their problem. Them pilots are better pilots then any driver on the bridge can drive a car.
sure, but I would say in this instance the photographer did the harder task!
Talked to a retired airline pilot last week and asked him about the lack of hands on flying abilities we hear about by airline pilots today.
He said it is often Navy pilots who don’t know how to crab as they are taught to land in to the wind only and not serious cross winds,
Carriers heahd in to the wind for take offs and landings.
Once upon a time, my brother-in-law flew an A-6 off the Eisenhower. Just a few weeks ago, I was with him and my sister at a grocery store. He parked that minivan like an 100-year-old lady with cataracts...crooked, over the lines, etc. So funny. My sister said, “I don’t get it...you landed an A-6 on an aircraft carrier in the middle of the ocean at night...how can you NOT park this car?” His response: “this isn’t an A-6. I’m not on a carrier. It’s daytime”. :P I am still laughing. :)
yea, like I said earlier, the pilots fly better than you drive. Not knocking your driving skills, those pilots are simply awesome.
I agree
Shadows don’t match.
lol you got that right
lol that is funny
Portland General Electric Co., of Portland, OR, used to employ a very talented and fearless ex-military pilot back in the 1970s. He would fly up the Columbia and Willamette Rivers under the bridges.
what shadows?
