The former St. Louis County Police Chief has said he believes federal authorities are purposely leaking details of the Michael Brown case because they already know that no charges are going to be brought against Officer Darren Wilson.
Tim Fitch has claimed the controversial New York Times article published last week which details a frantic struggle between 18-year-old Brown and Wilson over his weapon inside a squad car is all part of a strategy to 'let people down slowly'.
The retired police chief says he believes federal authorities accept it is 'probably very unlikely' that the grand jury will recommend no charges be brought against 28-year-old Wilson and he expects to see more leaks like this in the next few weeks.
'There was a struggle over the weapon. Law enforcement, we know that about half the officers killed every year with firearms are killed with their own,' said Fitch to CBS St. Louis.
'So the fact that he didn't have his own doesn't mean there wasn't a weapon there available that could be used in deadly force use.'
Addressing the New York Times article published last Friday, which included leaks from the grand jury which is taking place in secret, Fitch said he would call the sensational information phase two of the feds strategy.
In other words, 'to coordinate leaks to the media, and to start getting some of the facts out there to kind of let people down gently,' said Fitch to CBS St. Louis.
'When I say this is phase two phase one was really Eric Holder's announcement how they were going to basically do a complete review and take over the Ferguson Police Department.'

Not sure what to make of it but given how much attention this case has received doing this may be smart. This town has had its “consciousness raised “ in ways never forseen and the outside agitators are determined to vent their rage against the man.
This way people can get used to reality gradually. It may have an impact on the reaction when there are no charges.
Well,at least he’s”True To Form”?
Does this mean that the”Gentle Giant”was ANYTHING But?????
Since when do the feds try to discourage race rioting?
I will freely admit that I’m not always the sharpest knife in the drawer and sometimes I miss the obvious, but can anybody explain the following sentence and the one in front of it in the article. “ So the fact that he didn’t have his own, doesn’t mean there wasn’t a weapon there available that could be used in deadly force use.”
I can see the Feds leaking the info to give the thugs in the community time to organize their looting teams, get their weapons together, and make their Molotov cocktails.
Theo Marcuse as commandant of Devil's Island on "The Wild Wild West."
After “Madam Secretary” do we get “Madam Guillotine”?
Angry black turnout at the polls will be preceded by angry black rioting, which will be followed by scared whites heading to the polls & to the WalMart ammo section.
I think you’re right, riots may increase black vote, but not as much as white backlash, thus net loss for Democrats.
Tim Fitch is master of the obvious.
Chief Fitch is not accusing the feds of leaking the information, he is only saying this is a common tactic utilized by the feds and they did it when he was a chief.
And he is absolutely right, this is a method to break news to a demographic, and in this case a particularly emotional demographic, that they should expect bad news, but not all at once.
If you save it all for the end, the very instant you say no indictment, the message becomes lost in all the ensuing violence.
Folks, this is going to get bad, real bad, because their are many, many young men in the St. Louis area who have no future and they are ready to go down fighting.
Was going to post double negative screw up too. Good catch!
“...this is going to get bad, real bad, because there are many, many young men in the St. Louis area who have no future and they are ready to go down fighting.”
Get your CCW, get range time, and practice firing from your vehicle, moving or stopped.
How many of these angry young men will look down the barrel of somebody’s Glock & say, “Pussy, you ain’t got the balls! Go ahead, shoot me, pig!!”
Check this out maggie
No they wouldn’t want that as that would keep them from the polls. They would be too busy rioting. Leak it out slowly so that they get mad and then put out commercials about 2 weeks before election urging that they need to get out and vote to reverse this travesty.
Yes, that’s probably a typo. I’ll say it again, actually for the third time in the past seven days — once for each separate foul-up — the Daily Mail is the most poorly edited news site on two continents.
