On one side, there are dilapidated houses, gardens overflowing with weeds and a high crime rate.
On the other, there are streets filled with spacious homes, well-manicured lawns and yoga studios.
This is one of numerous fences that have been erected by the wealthy 'haves' of the Michigan suburb of Grosse Pointe Park to 'prevent 'have-nots' from Detroit from driving into the city'.
The brick barrier, reading 'Road Ends', represents a significant divide between the two cities, which despite their proximity, differ greatly in terms of average salary, crime rates and general desirability.

Sure, nearly everyone needs help at times in their life.
Have you made it a career? Are there three or four generations of your family which have never held a job or been off welfare?
I kinda doubt it. However that is exactly the situation we have with significant numbers of people in this country of both white and black skin colors.
BTTT.
In Austin, the same phenom is present, just not so stark. Meaning, generally there is a tendency for people with means to “go west young man”............and that “generally” means as far west as possible but there are close in neighborhoods still holding value too. And, downtown Austin is a phenom all by itself with condos going for 1,200 psf or higher!
Notwithstanding any of the foregoing, I think all large cities have their no go areas. I’ve been in or around this city for 60 years plus and there are areas I have NEVER been in and NEVER will. There also are whole subdivisions that have been quietly and quickly bulldozed. Nothing like Detroit in terms of scope but certainly the same underlying causes. And, no question that any objective analysis of the whole problem would conclude that the Democrats (liberals) hold on the so called “black community” is to blame.
Look bro, I have no intentions of getting into an argument with you over this blatant bullshit article from across the pond. Why?
Because number one, I know the area, my sister lives in the area, my niece lives in the area and I travel thru the area on a regular basis!
Nunber two, the only major streets which lead into the Pointes from Detroit proper are from the following, :
Jefferson Ave. which becomes Lake Shore Drive at around Moross.
Charlevoix which ends at approximately 7 mile rd.(Moross)
Kercheval which takes up where Charlevoix ends up.
Mack Ave
Harper Ave. which ends at approx. 9 mile rd. and mack Ave. takes over. None of which have been blocked off to prevent traffic from Detroit......
As for this bogus picture here, you think that maybe, just maybe the barrier was constructed because of freshly laid concrete?
This is the Lochmoor Country Club golf course located along Moross between Mack and Kercheval
One only has to look at this picture to see that the wall has been in existence for years and there was never a thru street to begin with
Negros...the other Obola.
I’m unclear why you think I’m trying to argue with you.
There are at least 25 streets by which one can drive from Detroit directly into GPP. Only two streets appear to have been fenced off, quite possibly for reasons other than keeping the riffraff out.
IOW, I agree it’s a BS article.
If you want an argument, you’ll need to argue with yourself.
That’s great news.
Is $101k/year average income considered wealthy there? They’ve got to be paying quite a bit in tax to sustain what is left..
So? It’s a gated community. Not the only one in the world. What is this article trying to say, that the people in the gated community are evil and should allow in criminal low-lives? Why should they?
Actually, it isn’t a gated community.
“Considering the crimes committed by upper class kids,...”
Yeah, the MSM scours the nation daily to find those half dozen or so cases a year of upper class white kids committing serious crimes. Then they drop everything to report on it for a month.
Even then, they will bury the story if it’s a rich white demonrat’s kid.
It’s big news because it’s so damn rare.
Reminds me of “The Walking Dead”.
