Film will introduce 'Civil War' plot line
It looks like Robert Downey Jr. will be putting the Iron Man suit back on again for some big roles in the Marvel universe. According to Variety, Downey is close to signing on to play Iron Man in Captain America 3, taking up a significant role in the film that will help it introduce a new phase of Marvel movies.
The film will reportedly find Iron Man and Captain America feuding over a law called the Superhero Registration Act, which requires heroes to register with the US government to do its bidding. Iron Man is in favor of the legislation, while Captain America says it's a threat to civil liberties. In that sense, Downey may actually be playing one of the film's villains. The storyline comes directly out of Marvel's "Civil War" series from 2006.
The addition of Downey is certainly a surprise, as it had looked for a while now like he would only be returning for the second and third Avengers films, which he'd already been contracted to do. Variety reports that Downey has been pushing for a substantial role in the next Captain America and that he's expressed interest in maintaining a presence in Marvel's films into the future. The publication even speculates that the storyline that Downey's character kicks off could lead into a role for him in a fourth Avengers film. Separately, Badass Digest reports that the Russo Brothers — who were behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier and are working on its sequel — are in talks to direct the next two Avengers films.

It actually makes more sense for Captain America to be for registration and Iron Man - given the personality established for Tony Stark - to be against it.
It can, and will be, sooner than later. I fear. However I’m not very interested in this Civil War nonsense. It’s an analogy for gun registration. If you have read the Civil War run, you know that the leftists win. Hate it.
Very interesting that Hollywood would be sponsoring, so to speak, a debate on government regulation. Also interesting to me is that Stark famously thumbed his nose at the government in a showy Congressional hearing in Iron Man 2, proclaiming himself The Private Sector Peace Solution or something like that. I wonder if anybody in the movie will point that out.
That said, most of those guys need to carry about half a trillion in casualty insurance each. You see one of those guys out your window, you might as well start looking for a job in another state.
It’s always been that way in the comics too. When I read it I was pretty surprised, however it’s leftist drivel and I really didn’t enjoy that run very much.
Though brainless, in fact Winter Soldier was relevant —touched on themes of World Gummint, domestic spying, etc.

“Civil War” was the point where I parted company with Marvel Comics after a lifetime. I could shrug at the occasional liberal bit here and there but when Joe Quesada took over the handwriting was on the wall and I jumped off the train before it reached Moonbat Central. The Obama Spider-Man cover, the Captain America tea party libel, Civil War, Ms. Muslim...glad not to have paid for any of it.

That’s because Hollywood considers Stalinesque things to be Right-Wing. All Hollywood dictators are conservative.
Then again, Iron Man III, as much as I didn’t like that movie, could have created a genesis in Stark’s mind to believe registration of super powered people is a necessity.
It’s been established, through Captain America II, that Rogers will burn down organizations before he will trample the Constitution.
They’re blowing it by not doing Kree/Skrull War. All the characters are in place, even including Guardians of the Galaxy - Civil War sucked imo
For something like Civil War, you need more than 10 or 12 Superheroes to be meaningful.
I don’t think they want to do an intergalactic arc until the third phase. Once they go there, there’s no place else to go. To some extent, you don’t want to too intergalactic, because it might be unrelateable to the audience.
This is what hurt Green Lantern, imo, they went too big too soon.
I think Marvel signed away use of the Skrulls along with the Fantastic Four

Yes. Spiderman is wearing a Spidey costume that was designed by Stark. I didn’t read Civil War, so I don’t know what advantages it gave Spiderman.
