As for the "subtlety" of the "elliptical modernism" of 2001, go back and watch the film, leave the bong on the coffee table in the living room, and this time pay attention to the middle of that horrendous train wreck, where Kubrick actually serves up one of the most soporific "action sequences" in the history of modern film, spelled out dull thud after dull thud in excruciatingly awful detail. Then get back to me about how wonderfully minimalist the presentation is.
