Wendy Davis learned nothing from the overwhelming backlash she faced from both the left and the right over her wheelchair ad last week.
In what may have been one of the most slimy campaign ads ever to air, Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis attacked pro-life candidate Greg Abbott by running an ad with an empty wheelchair that takes a shot at Abbott, who is confined to one.
Davis is the pro-abortion candidate for governor in Texas whose sole claim to fame is having filibustered against a bill to ban late-term abortions. Not content to speak out against protecting unborn babies after viability, the Davis campaign mocked her pro-life opponent, Greg Abbott, for being paralyzed.
Now, Davis is defending the ad:
Davis held a press conference on Monday, flanked by several people in wheelchairs. She defended her controversial ad, calling Mr. Abbott a hypocrite.
After receiving justice in the form of millions of dollars from a lawsuit, Greg Abbott has built a career kicking the ladder down behind him and denying to others the very same justice that he both deserved and received, the Texas state senator said at her Fort Worth field office, Politico reported. We need to call this what it is hypocrisy. But there is example after example of it, harming the people that he is supposed to be fighting for.
Davis top adviser also defended the ad, arguing that Mr. Abbott had prominently featured himself in the wheelchair in his ads.
This ad is not about Greg Abbott in a wheelchair, Davis pollster Joel Benenson said Sunday, Politico reported. This ad is about Greg Abbotts behavior and action with other victims after he had his opportunity and rightly sought justice and received a substantial amount of money.
Abbott spokeswoman Amelia Chasse told The Texas Tribune, No amount of desperate spin can rescue Sen. Davis from the rightful criticism she has received over her offensive decision to air this spot.
But Katie Pavlich at TownHall thinks Davis is using the disabled as props:
After extensive backlash and outrage by the left and the right over the weekend, including the far-left media outlet Mother Jones, Team Wendy is digging deeper and doubling down with human props.
Absolutely shameless. I for one am looking forward to watching Davis lose on election day.
“Wheelchair Wendy!”
It seems to me she is calling him a hypocrite, not criticizing him for being disabled.
A wise person wouldn’t have even gone there. If all she has to offer is attack ads and abortions, she may not be a good choice for the job.
Her criticism is that he benefited financially from his disability and then made it harder for others in the same boat to benefit financially, see?
And what she omits is that he was following the law. As in doing his job and not substituting his own “law” for the actual law.
No, she’s attacking someone in a wheelchair. If you think that’s in good taste, then maybe you do like her.
IOW, she’s lying on top of her tasteless attacks on a wheelchair-bound person.
So just like anyone with a protected status, you are not supposed to dare to attack?
Not about protected status. Now you’re playing liberal games.
You say she can’t point out that he is a hypocrite due to the fact he is in a wheelchair.
They’re probably getting her prepped for a Senatorial bid in a couple years
Go back and review the looks on ALL the faces behind Abortion Barbie. Looks like they are at a funeral. Actually they are.
Hey, if you are low enough to kill your babies, you are low enough to attack a cripple.
Liberals cannot learn from their mistakes because they don’t think they make any; they are so much smarter than us. Thus when they fail they feel it is because they just didn’t go far enough.
yep.
What? You mean Saint Abortion Barbie did not cure any of the disabled?! I am shocked!
Another creepy Wendy ad. She is such trash!
Ping!
Garbage and trash.
Useful Idiots on Wheels.
This is sad, on so many levels.
These folks look like they were dragged into this room, with Wendy the Witch.
The guy on the far left looks especially embarrassed.
...yep, and many other things we’d get banned for saying. *evil grin*
