The mother of a five-year-old girl paralyzed by the enterovirus has spoken out about the hell of watching her young daughter battle the deadly illness.
Kinley Galbreath, from Hamilton, has spent the past three weeks in intensive care at Children's of Alabama, where she remains on a ventilator paralyzed from her arms to her legs.
Her mom Kim Nichols has remained by Kinley's side since the little girl was admitted to hospital and diagnosed with the potentially fatal respiratory illness enterovirus D-68
Speaking exclusively to ABC 3340, the mother said: 'As she was getting ready to doze off, she said 'mommy, my hands are going numb' and by that point she started to lose movement in her neck.
'On the third day is when she lost movement from her legs down,' Ms Nichols added. 'The only thing she's had control of has been her toes. And that's what she wiggles to let me know something's wrong. And she'll blink her eyes for yes, and won't blink her eyes for no.'

There are several types of disorders that are Polio like in the way they attack the body. Guillain-Barre syndrome is known to attack the respiratory system and cause paralyzes the patient. It attacks the myelin sheaths. There are several variants of GBS that are common to specific countries. GBS can start out as a respiratory virus.
The next possibility is Transverse Myelitis. A cousin to Polio and Polio type damage to the myelin sheaths as well. However with Transverse the patients respiratory system usually isn't compromised. But both disorders can leave a person being quadriplegic.
My wife is a Transverse Myelitis patient. It hit her in a few hours time 29 years ago last month. Her doctors first suspected Guillain-Barre but she was not in any respiratory difficulty. There were two cases of it then though in the hospital they were dealing with. That was in 1985.

I second that, this breaks my heart. I have kids that age too, I can’t even imagine what the family and the little girl is going through.
I began tracking southern border, illegal issues, and watched as illegals were sent to various states. One state was KANSAS where they were housed at a military base. The base denied entry to a congressman who wanted to inspect there!
I’d need to check but I think EV-D68 was first reported in Kansas then spread.
Several are calling this OBOLIO as illegals brot it up to US states from South America thanks to Obama. In fact, OBOLIO has become so common news is calling it racist! This D68 sometimes presents with some degree of paralysis.

I grew up in the 50s and the threat of polio was a horror for parents.
The telltale symptoms were flu-like and stiff neck.
I recall public swimming pools being closed in the summer when it was determined they were ‘hot spot’ for the disease.
Knew several kids that spent time in an ‘iron lung’.
This sure sounds like a strain of polio.
I will not vote for a communist of ANY party just to be able to say that there is an R in office.
Romney is the SAME animal as Obama, same philosophy, same goal.

Here’s how it works Norm, the “choice” is in the primary. By the time Texas has the primary election the “choice” has already been made by other states. Romney was only “half a slice” but half is better than the nothing we got.
I don’t know how the conservatives in name only have gotten as much mileage out of the “Romney would be better” meme. No he wouldn’t. Look at his record.

One can even go as far as to say that Obama is more conservative than Romney because he was on record as being Pro traditional marraige whereas Mitt was not. Several of us have asked for years...YEARS for these RINO apologists to provide a single example of Romney’s conservatism and they can’t. There is a record and it is 100 percent against everything in the Republican platform.
And the Mitch/Jonbon/RandPaul/Jeb/Christie types are at best, fractionally better. Any actual voting records they have in office or legislation has to be balanced against how hard they fought against those votes Kerry style. For it before against or vise versa, and all the campaigning against actual conservatives.
Principle matters. Anyone telling us to set it aside for the good of the country should simply say those words aloud and hear how freaking stupid they sound.

Sadly, another example of bleeding heart liberals ramrodding their agendas without thinking of the consequences. Did they not know that these kids coming in illegally were not immunized? Was it even a consideration, as to the possibilities of bringing diseases to American kids? None of it matters to them, just the glorious possibility of opening our borders to needy kids.
