Recent Mars Images (Marvin the Martian throws down the kaboom in a guest zot)

Posted on 10/08/2014 10:49:46 AM PDT by aardwolf46

All over the internet recently, sciFy vs. reality and a Mars satellite for petty cash:

That breaks the monopoly. Faced with the spectre of other nations publishing uncensored Mars images, NASA and JPL have started publishing some much more obvious images than they have in the past including a totally uncensored video (JPL) showing large-scale structure.

A few items...

JPL uncensored video showing large-scale structure:

Electrical device of some sort with helical coil wound around it
Device is on the left, about a third of the way down on the image

Gear of some sort.

The thing I always heard about spiders is you are never more than three feet away from a spider.

That was Bob's original point, I think.

I heard the song on the radio yesterday. Wasn’t the first time I’d heard it, but probably the first time for this version. Zot, Kris Kristofferson has gotten old, hasn’t he?

Kris Kristofferson .... kind of grew up listening to his music along with the other Outlaws of that time ... As have grown older and grown older still and tired, there are many pleasant memories and still Love the Outlaw Bands which Kris contributed to in enormity. Much Great Music.

He wrote everyone’s hit songs. There’s a book about the “Outlaws”; I’ll have to look in the library catalog later, after choir practice and the trip to the vacuum repair shop.

Checking in. I’m still not feeling all that spiffy, but as each day goes by, I will be closer to coming out of the minor relapse.

Aviation Nation is at the air base this weekend. They have a lot of old planes and some exhibition flyers, and, of course, the famous Thunderbirds!

We probably won’t go even though it’s free, as Busdaddy is trying to get the car ready to race next weekend.

"That was Bob's original point, I think."

When someone hands me something, like an old saying such as, "you are never far from a spider", I examine it closely, including turning it over and looking at the other side.

It is my nature to be annoying in this manner.

In this instance, I knew that the meaning was that spiders go where we go for the same reason seagulls go where fishermen go. We provide a habitat for smaller animals.

But I chose to reword the saying so that I could take it in a different direction.

"You are never far from a spider". To be honest, I am relatively far from a spider; I do not have an exoskeleton, and my exuded substances are inadequate to convert into fibers of any utility. Even my hair is getting scarce and brittle.

But I chose to consider how far I am from a spider evolutionarily just for the amusement factor. It's what I do; to look on the other side of looking at the other side.

It’s the historic air show in Monroe this weekend, but we’re pretty busy. Maybe DP can take some kids later.

Well, that was a 100% Fail trip. I got to Asuncion’s and found there wasn’t going to be a choir practice because Norma is poorly. Then I got to A-Plus Vacuums and found they’re closed until the 17th. Then I got to the gas station, and their payment system wouldn’t accept my card. Unnngh-ness.

So I put on some sweats and cleaned bathrooms, because every day needs some Win in it.

Do you sometimes want to tell people, “What an annoying jerk you are. Don’t you really hate yourself, deep down?”

Just sayin’ ...

What a coincidence! I found myself saying that very thing to a guy who lives in a nearby city, just a few days ago!

Some days, it’s all I can do to keep a civil tongue in my mouth. When it gets to that point, I just leave. I’m too old to argue with anyone stupider than I am.
