When someone hands me something, like an old saying such as, "you are never far from a spider", I examine it closely, including turning it over and looking at the other side.
It is my nature to be annoying in this manner.
In this instance, I knew that the meaning was that spiders go where we go for the same reason seagulls go where fishermen go. We provide a habitat for smaller animals.
But I chose to reword the saying so that I could take it in a different direction.
"You are never far from a spider". To be honest, I am relatively far from a spider; I do not have an exoskeleton, and my exuded substances are inadequate to convert into fibers of any utility. Even my hair is getting scarce and brittle.
But I chose to consider how far I am from a spider evolutionarily just for the amusement factor. It's what I do; to look on the other side of looking at the other side.
It’s the historic air show in Monroe this weekend, but we’re pretty busy. Maybe DP can take some kids later.
