Ebola: At what threshold do you self quarantine~ Vanity

So at what level/number of ebola cases in the USA should people consider self quarantining themsevles in order to either avoid getting infected or in order to wait out a few weeks in case you may have picked it up to prevent spreading it.

Here is what I have a framework:

1. 1,000 cases in the United States with 0 in your own state.

2. 500 cases in the United States with 1 or more in your home state.

3. 250 cases in the United States with 1 or more in your home city/town.

4. 10 cases in the united states with 1 or more in your neighborhood (4-10 block radius).

Just a quick list on what I think, but not I am not an expert...

Their presumptions are what I want them to put some indicator on, at what numbers do their wild projections and claims, get met?

The people that are raging on the end of the world scenario should be able to offer some rough numbers of what is catastrophic and doomsday figures to them.

I do not recall reading any threads predicting the end of the world. To me, there is already a catastrophe - it's just on another continent, and should have been easily contained, if the CDC and WHO are to be believed regarding infection vs contagion. Big failure on WHO’s part.

Any death in the USA of citizens who have not even been to the region is totally unacceptable. The government should have done something to insure that people entering the country are disease free of anything that is of Public Health Concern.

The death of one member of my family is a catastrophe to me, so simply spouting a number is not really a useful question to me.

The government's lack of concern, action, and security of our borders is the larger issue, and I find it to be outrageous not just now, but for years that they have allowed all manner of diseased people to simply step on over the border or fly in at will along with criminals, terrorists, and drug cartel members.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

I would bug in with #1 or #2. If there is one case in my county, then I have probably waited too long.

I would do none of the choices you list, if by self- quarantine you mean keep you and your family completely isolated in your own home. Keep in mind patient zero in Africa was in December. By this December the pandemic will still be raging worse than ever. My point is, if you want to take those kind of extreme safety measures, I hope you have done some serious prepping. Because if it were to actually turn into a pandemic in America, which I don’t think will happen, you could be isolated for years.

Start now by building your immune system. Under good health care the survival rates is quite good for healthy people, compared to the dire figures normally given. Build your supplies of natural treatments.

As you think risks in your area begin to increase, then begin to increase protective measures. Limit public exposure. If you want wear gloves in public, or bring disinfecting wipes or both. Wash hands frequently. Don’t touch public surfaces. If you buy any fresh food from public places disinfect it very well, and or cook the daylights out of it.

There are plenty of stages of protection without making a mad dash toward complete quarantine. Franlkly five homes in my neighborhood could get it, and my only increased risk of exposure would be the handle of the gas pump, and the grocery store, unless it was someone I knew personally.
