A very disturbing number of Freepers are openly advocating, on Free Republic threads, for the defeat of Senator Pat Roberts and other good Conservative Republicans. Greg Orman, in Kansas, is a pro abortion, anti gun, tax and spend Liberal Democrat who has given tens of thousands of dollars to Obama and Pelosi and the Democrat Party and Harry Reid. I am called an "idiot" for supporting Roberts. However, I think that those on Free Republic who support Harry Reid and Greg Orman should be ZOTTED, kicked off the site. I have had enough of there hate filled, vindictive, misguided trash.
You are never going to get West or Palin until you convince the GOP-E that they are wasting their money buying nominations for the trash such as McCain, Romney, McConnell, Boehner, etc. One tactic is tro deny the GOP-E the goodies they crave: special interest tax breaks, protection of Muffie's trust fund, special "access," the ability to have K Street actually write the legislation that affects them, etc. Instead of being airheads and being suckered on "free market" grounds (inapplicable in any event), conservatives should strive to absolutely frustrate the unprincipled Wall Street $$$$ trash that regularly purchase control of the GOP and its nominations.
I am not cynical and the last thing I will ever be is pessimistic. I have witnessed two POTUS elections in which Ronald Reagan, allegedly the unelectable "extremist," carry 49 states in one election and 40 in the other. Excellent performance compared to Gerald Ford, George H. W. Bush vs. Billy Jeff, Robert Dole, John McCain and Myth Romney, according to the GOP-E the "electable" moderates. I have also witnessed the fall of the soviet union and the Berlin Wall and the iron curtain. In my Church, I have had thirty-five years of John Paul I, Saint John Paul II and Benedict XVI before the present burden and after too many years of Saint John XXIII and Paul VI.
Don't kid yourself. Romney and McConnell and Boehner are every bit as evil and, worse, they can permanently destroy the GOP as a political vehicle. Then it would take twenty years to establish a new party.
It IS an imperfect world and it will be until its end. That does not mean we may choose to cooperate with evil.
Catherine of Aragon:
I agree with you that the most important thing by far for each of us will be the account that will be demanded of each of us by our Creator and there will be no excuse for coddling abortionists, among other things. God bless you and yours!
I liked being told that the self same republicans who cannot muster enough testicular fortitude to oppose Obama would somehow miraculously hold Romney’s feet to the fire.
That was a laugh and a half.
Where did ifinnegan write or imply that conservatives “OWE” their votes to liberals like Romney? Where also did he write or imply we have to support the Republican “regardless of how leftist a GOP nominee may be?” It seems to me ifinnegan was simply saying it’s better to vote for the best candidate one can get.
There may be some rare circumstances where the Republican is arguably worse than the Democrat. For example, Mitch McConnell as the majority leader of the senate could conceivably do far more damage to conservative causes than a newbie Democrat. I say conceivably because it’s a tough call.
I don’t see anyone on my side of the argument making the claim that it’s easy to vote for RINOs or that we OWE them our votes. In fact, they run a very real risk of losing every time they thumb their noses at us. Regardless, that’s a separate issue than the theme of this thread. Do we hold our noses and vote for the lesser evil to stop a greater one?
It’s not black and white, because there are different degrees of evil. No Republican candidate will ever be 100% pure and too few even make it to 80%. The question is, does one vote for a 10, 20, or 30% ally to stop a 0% enemy?
A certain itinerant preacher in Galilee said it best, “Be not conformed to this world.”
While this world is imperfect, as you mention that doesn’t mean to go along with it.
Bump.
{^) Stop it, yer killin' me, ifinnegan!! Like shrieking "You support Harry Reid!" at the very suspicion a sensible person might balk against voting for a leftist in order to avoid a leftist -- equating that with "supporting Harry Reid!" *squawk* *flap* ... isn't emotional!!! {^)
It's just too rich! {^)
Funny, some certain posters have spent this entire thread telling the rest of us that we must vote for liberal republicans or else we are supporting the democrat.
Another or two said that opposing abortion supports abortion...
I’m now getting it in the neck from Dave W because Tillis is a lousy Rove candidate. I have to conclude RNC is paying people on here! hahahahha
Are you saying Im evil for voting to stop Obama the best way I could at the time?"
Citizen, I posted about my particular situation, did I not? I told you I wasn't trying to tell you how to vote.
I did a lot of praying about voting for Romney, and I went and did it anyway, even after he said,in May of 2012, that two people of the same sex who "love each other" should be able to adopt children.
That's repellent no matter who believes it. Am I saying you're evil? No, but Romney is for saying such a thing. I'm done being a party to it.
Been there, done that. Not doing it again. Either they are someone that I want to vote for or I don't vote. I'm tired of the McCains and Romney's and losing anyway. It's called futility. We NEED a conservative candidate or we'll lose. I am not a Republican. I am a Conservative.
Are you saying we cannot vote for anyone except a truly repentant and faithful Christian? If not, what level of sin can I vote for without “going along” with evil and being conformed to the world? Seriously. I really want to know what you think is acceptable regarding elections.
I appreciate that. God bless you, too.
Like I said, I'm speaking as someone who talked the talk last time around, but gave in after Benghazi and voted for Romney anyway. The spiritual repercussions in my life began the next day.
So, yep, God does discipline us like the Father He is, but it's discipline you tend to remember....I'm not messing around again.
Personally, I reject that way of looking at the problem. You can have 99.9% of the finest wine in the cup, but it won't matter if the other smidgeon is cyanide.
The proper question, in my opinion, is "what are your non-negotiables"?
I know what mine are. Do you?
That is the truth.
Too bad some aren’t able to understand the concept.
*sigh*
Everything Norm said is true. In what can best be described as a lame and inept attempt to defend Texas' pro-ILLEGAL alien governors position against a border fence, that particular poster dug up any and all resources he/she could including an anti- border fence website run by a pro-ILLEGAL alien group whose goal is to defend the constant invasion of our country by the ILLEGAL hordes from the south. She/he also posted a NY Times piece that accomplished nothing more than to reveal just how incredibly desperate she/he had become. It was sad to watch and I was embarrassed for him/her.
I realize Texans love them some La Raza Rick Perry, but to some, Perrys long history of being pro-ILLEGAL alien matters not. They can and will stoop to any low in their vain attempts to defend him, and that is what happened that night.
Yup, go that right. Quit holding a golf club in the air when there is lightening in the area.
love that pic.
I don’t believe anyone (on this thread) has said you “must” vote for liberal Republicans. We’ve said withholding votes from liberal Republicans—in general elections—might result in something worse winning.
Kansas58 is the only one, I believe, who claimed pro-lifers were responsible for the deaths of babies by refusing to compromise on abortion restrictions. I don’t think pro-lifers who refuse to compromise are responsible, but it’s probably true that that has made it more difficult to pass abortion restrictions. I think both sides of the pro-life movement have good motives. The disagreement is over what approach is most likely to save babies in the here and now.
Could be brain fog? Maybe they need caffeine.
