She'll have to talk to Lois Lehrner or whomever is running that division of the IRS now. Good luck on congress getting power back from a bureaucracy once they've ceded it.

I had no idea the NFL was tax-exempt. On what basis?

“The NFL needs to join the rest of Americans in the 21st century,”

Did anybody show this women the recent ESPN poll where around 70% of respondents said they are not in favor of the Redskins changing their name?

NFL shouldn’t have been tax exempt in the first damned place, it is a business, you know like GE....

Meaningless gesture.

Only the head office of the NFL has tax-exempt status. All the teams pay taxes.

The NFL is tax Exempt?

I found a CNBC web site that said: "In fact, the NFL is actually tax-exempt, a status it gained in 1944. Often forgotten, the league was granted 501(c) 6 status in 1966, when it merged with the American Football League. But unlike charitable nonprofits, or 501 (c) 3 organizations, the 501(c) 6 designation means the NFL is a trade organization. This tax-exempt status does not apply to the league's 32 individually owned franchises."

Why?

This is a politically very smart move, as it will raise ticket prices which will endear her to about half the voting public. The other half>? Not so much.

There are probably not a hand full of US senators who have not been guests in the owners suite at Redskins games, standing and hooting and hollering for the gasp, Redskins.
Cantwell may be one of them.

Never let a good racism charge go unused.

Meanwhile, out in the eastern part of Cantwell's state of Washington, resides a triple-A minor league team...

The NFL claims that they are like a chamber of commerce and that the business and profit is only conducted in the franchises with the NFL proper not making any money. I haven’t researched it but I don’t think it is probably true.

My opinion is that they a bunch of tax exempt bazillionaires who feel like it is necessary to lecture me on what rights I need to give up. I think they should lose their tax exempt status but I will be honest and say that my opinion is based on their blatant attacks on my gun rights rather than actual fairness. College football is more fun to watch anyway.

Good idea. Why should it be tax exempt?

Washington owned slaves who were freed at his death. I demand that they change the name of the state.

But Cantwell’s is not a good idea. The intent of her bill is not to remove the NFL’s tax-exempt status, it’s to get the Washington REDSKINS to bow to the tyranny of the Left.
