To Rush Limbaugh: Losing a Listener
Vanity | Septermber 16, 2014 | Morris Poston

Posted on 09/16/2014 2:21:07 AM PDT by goodn'mad

I'm a dyed in the wool ditto-head and have been so for many years. To be honest, I'm finding you less and less "listenable." You seem to be losing your edge. While I download your podcasts, I more and more frequently find myself fast-forwarding past the lengthy spiels on the latest I-phones, sports happenings, and your winning your umpteenth Marconi Award, that is, when I bother to listen at all. Listening to your broadcast used to be the highpoint of everyday. I never thought I'd say this but I no longer count it a great lose if I go for days without listening. I'm heartsick to say it. Please don't think this is a plant or that I'm a seminar caller. Check it and you'd see that I've subscribed since the beginning. I may not do so any longer. Maybe it can be summed up like this: I used to find hope by listening to you but it seems like even you have lost hope. I could say more but won't, except for this: I'm a rock-ribbed, hard core, conservative listener and have been for years. If you've lost me, you've probably lost several thousands. For what it's worth......

I agree.

As a daily listener, I thought Rush reached his peak at his CPAC speech a number of years back. Then, he remarried. Ever since, his shows have become more and more mellow. This has accelerated after the Sandra Fluke affair where he appeared “wimpy” as he rushed to the microphone to apologize.

Dare I say it? Rush has become “chickified.”

Just think about it, you’re a piss ant compared to Rush. You have 200 people knowing your thoughts Rush has 20 million. Now sit back down.

I imagine Rush needs a break from talking about the ongoing destruction of this country by 0bama and his liberal team. Talking about his cat, or football helps him to keep his sanity, and reveals him as a balanced person.

Every word he utters is recorded and scrutinized by leftist operatives, looking for a way to get him thrown off the air. His words are distorted. Deliberate and intentional lies are created about his words.

The country IS going to hell, as long as the left is in charge and half of Americans have their heads up their a$$e$. So if you can hear a little depression in his words, it’s understandable.

Okay...we are on the same page. I wondered if anyone else felt the same way that I do about Savage’s program. The ego and arrogance are big turn offs. One thing about Rush though is that while he can go on a tear about his greatness, he always does it with a touch of humor. Just part of his schlep. I never sensed that about Savage. I don’t listen to him much for that reason. A smart dude and he sure tells it like it is but hey...take it to the LIBERALS...not to other conservative talk-show hosts. You should be on the same team, for Heaven’s sake.

I don't get to listen all the time. I have had Rush 24/7 so can catch the most interesting topics later. It seems like his sports discussions and computer discussions are about the same portions as they always have been.

He obviously loves football, and I find the NFL to be significantly more boring than watching paint dry. The beauty of radio is how easy it is to tune out when the subject is boring.

Nevertheless, I look forward to the start of my lunch period every day for a chance to catch up on the latest fray and will, likely, do so until he retires.

I don't think he has changed all that much. It sounds like you would benefit from exploring some other venue. There is a life cycle to every product for each of us.

I think my main gripe with Rush right now is that it is only about 6 weeks before the midterms and we need a constant diet of political news right now, not fluff, like computers, iphones, football, etc. It should be all politics all the time from now until election day in November. It’s what Rush does best, and he needs to cut the superfluous and concentrate on the important.

Our country is in crisis mode and these midterm elections are of maximum importance. Pubs must take the Senate, as there will be SCOTUS appointments coming up and the Court hangs in the balance.

Thank you for your gracious words! Yes, I’m just an ordinary Joe. An American citizen who has devoted over half of his life to defending his country. So I’m a big boy...I can easily take your punches. I don’t claim to be much, certainly not in the league with Rush Limbaugh, but I do love my country and I’m sad that it is being destroyed. And in case you’ve missed it with your vast insight and great accumulation of wisdom, my point is that he seems to have wandered off course. I’m afraid if this continues, he may become less significant. That would be a great tragedy.

You said it much better than I did. You should have been the one who emailed him. I agree whole-heartedly.

You may be right. Thanks for your insight. Still don’t know if I agree that the fluff is about the same as it has always been. Maybe it is...or maybe I’ve just become a grumpy old man and have a lower tolerance for it. But it sure seems to me that he has a lot to say about trivial matters and not so much about great political matters. Someone mentioned that maybe he needs to take a break to maintain his sanity. He may be right about that. But I agree that you can listen to the first few minutes to get the gist of the broadcast and that is what I often do.

Rush didn’t lose his edge, you just graduated and no longer need that type of program.

Check out Mark Levin, or look up some commentators on YouTube, even start listening to infowars for something a bit more advanced.

I’ve found it’s hard to deal with people who don’t seem to “get it” regarding where the country and world are at right now.

I do realize that sometimes people need a break. It’s why there were movies even during the Great Depression.

I think I’m just feeling such an urgency about the damage that’s spiraling out of control, while the checks and balances refuse to do anything about it - that other talk is sort of like somebody bleeding out waiting for the doctor to finish telling a joke before bothering to apply a tourniquet.

Nobody knows how to apply a tourniquet, and it’s a very scary thing.

I don't disagree with your comments. In his defense, I'd suggest that it's impossible to keep up the focus, the intensity level..continuously. When he digresses, like with the cat chat, it's a mental time-out for him..he's talking..still filling the air time, but he's on mental autopilot..

OTOH, he has learned from his earlier mistakes..in that he has really tamed down on the personal stuff. Other than the wedding, he rarely talks about Kathryn. If you remember his previous spouse..Marta..he'd talk about her all the time..even pimping her website...to the extent that I'd turn him off.

Rush ain't perfect..but he's far and away the best we have, and his effectiveness is measured by how much he pisses off the libtards..

That like saying that since Obama can reach billions then you should sit down and keep quiet.

I guess a certain number of jerks are required on any subject. Why do you find it necessary to insult an honest poster, who, by the way, has many more people interested in this thread than most others.

No argument there. He used to say he can “count the threads on a curve-ball” and I believe it. He can see things that others overlook that later grow to become huge issues. I doubt there will be another his equal in my lifetime. I don’t want him to ever lose that.

Well said! I think that freepers tend to be the most politically aware and intuitive citizens in the nation. That is one reason I go to the Free Republic more than other websites. Their wit and insight often surpasses the talking heads.
