Philadelphia freedom. But let's allow those Mexican drug gangs to swarm over the border non-stop, and let's arm them as well.

Maybe the US should try that with the parents/families of terrorists.

The nightmare began when police showed up at the house and arrested their 22-year-old son, Yianni, on drug charges —
$40 worth of heroin. Authorities say he was selling drugs out of the home. The Sourvelises say they had no knowledge of any involvement their son might have had with drugs.
A month-and-a-half later police came back — this time to seize their house,

Try that in the "Low Rent" district.
But of course that's not the kind of property they want.

Based on what I read there, according to the law there, if someone is caught dealing drugs in a regional mall, the state can confiscate the entire mall and never press charges against the owners.
Seems kinda, I dunno, old USSR...

Are they trying to provoke a civil war, or will that be just another unintended consequence?

I'm not a Rand Paul fan, but he has been correct to speak out against these abuses.
How the police can take property without a conviction is beyond me.

Statists hate private property, like all good communists. They know they can’t just seize it outright, so they do it sneakily. “Asset forfeiture” is one way. The property tax is another way.

I’m surprised that inventive civil libertarians haven’t strategically placed controlled substances on the properties of anyone who advocates asset forfeiture and SWATted them.

Seizure laws were supposed to keep the criminals from keeping their ill-gotten gains. Unless that kid made the mortgage payments on that house, this would be no different than a landlord losing his property because he had a drug selling renter.
We're waaaaaaay overdue to hit that reset button.
