The man who drove his SUV through the front entrance of a mall in Jersey City and crashed it into a vacant store Sunday night told police he "was unsure what happened," according to the accident report.
The 83-year-old from Jersey City was taken to Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health after the accident and was placed under observation for a short time and then released, hospital spokesman Mark Rabson said yesterday.
The crash occurred at 5:47 p.m. Sunday at the Hudson Mall on Route 440. A video of the crash does not show the initial impact at the entrance, but it shows the SUV rolling down a corridor as stunned shoppers scramble to safety. The SUV is seen crashing through a wall, where it finally came to a stop.

I wonder who’s insurance company is going to pay for all the damage this guy caused?
Amish?
Was his name Elwood?
This is why self-driving cars are inevitable.
Honestly. What has that to do with anything in this case?
440 police cruiser. The new blues mobile.
I’m 68 and over the past few years I have noticed the deterioration of my driving skills and I completely agree ... driving tests every few years after 70.
I just hope I’m wise enough to recognize when I should give up my car keys or, at the very least, listen when others tell me it is time.
Big solar flare. ZAP. No electronics. I’ll drive one of my ‘antique’ cars with carbs and point ignition and you can drive your self driving car
I have been told with some authority, that grandpa won't have to drive again, once they get their licenses. ;)
I think I'll just take them up on that. I hate to drive.

“Im 68 and over the past few years I have noticed the deterioration of my driving skills “
Well,, I am 68 also, 69 in a month. I still go to the go-kart tracks. The thing that bums me out are that the Karts are so slow. My driving skills are fine!
“The new Oldsmobiles are in early this year.”
It’s 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark, and we’re wearing sunglasses.
Hit it.
Take his license away!...... give it to an illegal alien..../s
That happens a lot in my town. Rich old geezers who are too old to drive, and can’t see very well even with their glasses. But they’re driving Lexus, Mercedes and Lamborghinis. And when they crash into something or somebody, they get a relatively small fine and walk away. There will never be a law to restrict impaired old people from diving, because they’ve got the bucks and they’ve got the Power.
Once again, I typed too fast. I meant “driving”. (Just trying to forestall the Grammar Police).
Glade to hear your skills are fine ... mine, not so much. I guess we all lose skills at different rates.
The slow loss of my driving skills I could probably attribute to the loss of situational awareness, something that comes with age and lack of practice. I don’t drive nearly as much as I use to.
