So this isn’t really a reconstruction or rebuild, but rather a new replica of the original ship that was lost in 1793.

Too funny!
She is a beautiful ship. Considerably smaller design than the somewhat (17 years difference) USS Constitution tho. Too bad that, if they go to Boston next year, Constitution will be in drydock and they cant berth together for comparison pics. The pics from the recent visit of the Charles W Morgan there really showed just how big Constitution and the other Humphreys 44s were.

Those were great ships. Outgunned anything they couldn’t outrun. Gave the Brits a series of nasty shocks in 1812. They weren’t used to losing single ship battles.

Lafayette persuaded French King Louis XVI to provide military and financial support to George Washington's troops, and set off on March 21, 1780, from Rochefort, according to the Hermione project historians. He arrived in Boston 38 days later, and Lafayette played an important role in the revolutionary victory against England.Uhh. Not very good historians. Lafayette was specifically prohibited from going by the King, but he went anyway, in 1777.
To be fair, it's the reporter that's an idiot, not the historians.
This voyage was his second trip to America, and played out as described. But it reads like it was the first.

Amazing and most certainly one of a kind. I’d like to be able to go and see it sometime.

In order to be truly representative of the original ship, it should fly the French Royal Naval Ensign, not the tricolor, which would be an anachronism.

Wow, wow!!! Excellent time lapse of the construction...thanks for posting.
It also gives beginning and completion dates. They began construction in 1997. Will set sail for the US in April 2015.
First stop...Yorktown, then on to several New England ports.
So cool.

That’s a tremendous video you’ve posted.
I’d love to see that ship sail into Yorktown.
