Emma Sulkowicz is turning her assault into art -- and a protest against Columbia University's sexual assault policy
On the first day of her sophomore year of college, Emma Sulkowicz was raped in her dorm room bed. The Columbia University senior says the perpetrator was a fellow student. He still is and has been since he allegedly assaulted Sulkowicz and two other female students. As Sulkowicz reported in Time earlier this year, all three cases against her offender were dismissed. So, shes not taking it anymore.
After joining a federal complaint in April over Columbias mishandling of rape cases and speaking out about the schools failure to address her assault, Sulkowicz is now embarking on yet another effort an artistic one to make change on campus. For her senior thesis project, the visual arts major will perform what she is calling an endurance art piece, in which she will carry around a standard twin-size dorm room mattress with her everywhere she goes, until her rapist is removed from school.

Convenient for the next guy.
LOL
If you don’t want to be raped, don’t be slutty, dress modestly and always be accompanied by a male relative. Oh wait, where have I heard it?
So the guy was not charged or found guilty but she wants what she wants.
I bet booze had something to do with it.
Was it rape rape?
If the charges were dismissed she had her day in court. Case closed.
I’m sorry but if somebody who had raped me was still at the same school I was going to, I would not attend and I seriously doubt my parents would have let me.
I’d like to here more about the alleged rape.
“Endurance Art”... one I hadn’t heard of. It’s a mobile installation, I suppose.
There’s been a string of men who have been wrongfully accused of rape.
Attention whore. And the irony is: No one in their right mind will ever go near her after this.
Neither in Salon, nor the linked articles are you informed that she admitted to police that she twice had consensual sex with the guy prior to the alleged rape.
It is a wonder there are any MEN on campuses at all.
If what she says is true and the University did nothing about it, then she should take action.
But carrying a stupid mattress is not the correct action. This is a stupid gimmick that only ridicules her.
The action I have in mind is of a more serious deadly nature.
But, like most college rapes, there is usually two sides to the story. And both sides were probably drunk.
U got a synopsis
Was she wronged
Or fembot trolling
Kind of hard to tell
The guy is referred to as an ‘offender,’ and she is called a ‘rape survivor.’ Yet from the sounds of it, the legal system has found the guy not guilty. If she said yes, and took full part in the act, but then regretted it a couple days later, its not rape. If a rape was committed, or even a strong suspicion of a rape being committed, the guy would have been thrown out of school. Sounds like a nonsense case to me, but this is what comes of the filthy, anything-goes sex-culture that has come to dominate most US colleges.
Who cares about expulsion, why not call the cops, get him arrested, tried, and convicted.?
That was my first reaction to the photo, too.
Then, I got in touch with my sensitive, inner self.
I was wrong!
She could go around buck-assed naked and nobody is supposed to take notice.
