While rock 'n' roll is necessarily classified as a form of pop music, it is actually an idiom whose radical, destructive primitivism established a new type of socio-cultural disorder. It's about rejection of the status quo and celebration of the dis-imprisonment it instills.
Always exploited for profit, rock's unmanageable aspects have been steadily diluted by a sinister, commercially driven course of revisionist myth-making. There is no acceptable role in the marketplace for radicals like Charlie Feathers, Poly Styrene, Lux Interior or Roky Erickson, but there's always room for the homogeneous, money-hungry, play-it-safe phonies on this list.
These douchebags all have one thing in common -- they screwed up rock 'n' roll, big time.

Chances are, if you're a rock star you probably are a d-bag or an a-hole or a jerk, but there are all kinds of varieties and nuances involved. Some people are genius jerks, with no clue about the existence of other people, and some are just jerks.
Dylan, Lennon, and Reed may be geniuses. Springsteen is just an ego-maniacal jerk. Crosby is just a garden variety slob. Fogarty was an everyday jerk, though he may have come down to earth lately.
But where is Paul McCartney?
Neil Young rates high for me as well.
I first thought the picture of Bob Dylan was of a withered Vincent Price.
In all fairness, the criticism of Frank Zappa could be best described as his not being mainstream at all. He should not have been thought of as a rock’n’roller, because that is not what he was about. He created music for musicians. This included chamber music:

Santana should be #1 for his worship of that murdering scumbag Che Guevara.
And where’s Jackson Browne for beating up Darryl Hannah?
Totally...
Zappa was a genius. The author is a bigger DB than anyone one the list.
I read Lennon use to do that a lot, he was a head case. George Harrison said once they were at a wedding reception when they were teenagers and this woman was playing the piano and Lennon walked over and poured a beer over her head, and the woman didn’t get mad or anything, just said “Oh my” then cleaned herself up and Harrison said it made him feel terrible LOL!
This is satire. All on the list are great musicians and performers I have much respect for.
The one on that list that I really hate.... Bruce Springsteen. REALLY HATE all his so called music.
When anyone refers to him as “the boss” it turns my stomach.
I would agree, But by that criteria, every rock performer alive should make the list. Carlos Santana is very talented but his mind works in reverse with regard to Che.
The thing about Zappa I didn’t like, was how he seemed to have a blind spot for all the crap Democrats did, and thought that the “Religious Right” was more of a danger than the liberals with their political correctness were, and this despite the fact that most of the PMRC consisted of Democrats and also Feminists who didn’t like Prince singing about “Darling Nikki.”
Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead were not always the cleanest, tightest sound onstage but his leads were mellow and creative sweet. The band could jam and flow well onstage and they played long concerts__ you got your money’s worth.
One other thing— they allowed amateur recordings of their concerts and didn’t tie any exclusive copyright restrictions to the public performances. Hardly a ‘douche’ classification for Jerry and band.
“What did one Deadhead say to the other after the drugs wore off?”
“Man, this band sucks.”
I like John Fogerty. CCR got hosed.
But the other 5 either helped define, or advanced the art form.
On yes, Bruce Springsteen is a certain douche.
He had some good stuff and sold some good songs to other people, but I could never enjoy his BS for more than a song.
And I would add David Lee Roth - douchebag incarnate.
ping
I thought he was a blowhard long before I knew his politics.
HARSH! ;)
