No injuries are reported after a SpaceX rocket prototype detonated in Texas today (Aug. 22) after an anomaly was found in the rocket, the company said in a statement.
The Falcon 9 Reusable (F9R) a successor to the Grasshopper vertical take-off and landing rocket was completing the latest in a series of ambitious tests that previously saw the prototype successfully testing new steerable fins.
Todays test was particularly complex, pushing the limits of the vehicle further than any previous test, SpaceX said in a statement (which you can read in full below the jump.) As is our practice, the company will be reviewing the flight record details to learn more about the performance of the vehicle prior to our next test.
The company said it would provide more updates as it found information. SpaceX founder Elon Musk issued a brief statement of his own on Twitter:

“An FAA representative was present at all times”
As though that would provide the final, absolutely necessary, level of safety. I’m sure the rep was an interference more than a help.
I know these companies have to bow down an kiss the kings ring, but it sure chaps my hide when I see it in print.
why are they not launching to put mist of the trajectory over the Gulf?
It is interesting they launched this thing out in farm/ranch country not far south of G W Bush’s place in TX.
It must be fun collecting all of the pieces.
Hamas can fire rockets, they just cannot guide them (fortunately).
“fortunately” they are retards so far.
It’s also known as a ‘cato’ (catostrophic explosion or event).
“It must be fun collecting all of the pieces.”
This is what we call a rocket that re-kits itself and requires a trash bag recovery.
What would have been really cool is if they had installed a BRS on the top of the F9R that could have been activated and brought the rocket down slowly.

“anamoly”
I think this is the word flying people use ever since that ‘Twilight Zone’ episode with Captain Kirk and a gremlin on the wing.
Video of flight.

Now there's a useful euphemism.
Musk is a cult figure worshiped a god by the far-left. He’s also addicted to taxpayer handouts.
