We can bury it next to readable formatting.
San Diego Union-Tribune is the worst. It appears they don’t proof-read anything.

What color?
Always have your spouse proof read...they want to find an error.

LOL ... and read the Headline in thread just above your thread ... LOL
could have sworn that Headline read ‘rabid’ instead of ‘raid’ Eyes ... Eyes ... Eyes
This is my all time favourite headline. I don't think one really needs to read the story after this. And if man (and lesbian) goes for another million years, this type of incident could never happen again nor will all these words ever appear in the same sentence again.
Proofreading is indeed dead, along with the journalistic arts formerly known as editing, spelling and having at least a smidgen of knowledge upon the subject one is writing about.
I also think it got worse with the computer age, but that's probably a whole different subject, good luck reading an hour without finding one in a major media piece.
Autocorrect- is a dying art. Ni
Man Kills Self Before Shooting Wife and Daughter This one I caught in the SGV Tribune the other day and called the Editorial Room and asked who wrote this. It took two or three readings before the editor realized that what he was reading was impossible!!! They put in a correction the next day.
I just couldn't help but send this along. Too funny...

My pet peeves are autocomplete and autocorrect. I occasionally (frequently) get in a rush and write fast, so I am perfectly capable of generating my own errors, but I think the computer makes more than I do. Autocorrect, especially, tends to recreate the same mistake even after I’ve gone back and fixed it. Does anyone know how to turn it off?
Punctuation is your friend.
I don’t think it’s dying. I think the dinosaur media has cut editor jobs in an effort to save money and depend on the line jourinalists to do their own editing.
Some if the stuff being published is just awful.
Of course the general dumbing down of America makes this problem even worse.
That post could have used some proofreading.
And spelling’s been on life support for years!
