I can't talk too much about wine, but I can talk about Scotch.

There's a MASSIVE difference between a $5 bottle of rotgut Scotch (what my dad gets) and a $25 bottle of low-end single malt (what I get). It's like the difference between throwing a bullet, and shooting it. :-)

Once you get above that ..... meh. It's a matter of degrees. A $100 bottle is certainly not 4x better. Maybe a little smoother ... maybe .... but that's about it. And, as you posit, any difference I taste might just be in my head.

Now - the 1/2 case of 100+ year old Napoleon brandy that Dad and I got from my grandmother (she was cleaning out her husband's liquor cabinet and was going to throw it out because it was "old"...the horror!) was something truly special. Hard to describe - it just sort of evaporated in your mouth and left a pleasant taste.

Well, as someone who has smoked cigars for more than 30 years, I can tell you that anyone who pays $1,000 for a cigar is a fool, and that anybody who thinks infusing a cigar with any flavor, whether “rare cognac” or anything else is a good thing doesn’t know a damn thing about cigars. Proving yet again that Clinton is nothing but an Arky trailer trash grifter.

Wonder if the tastees were wine snobs? [Ew, box wine, sniveled the offended oenophile.] Heh-hehheh.

Hand tools are one subject that teaches 'one gets what one pays for,' My S+K flare nut wrench rounded a tube nut fuel line connector. Henry [rip] the senior, handed me his worn Snap-On flare wrench that instantly broke the nut loose. He teased: "Whyincha' buy GOOD tools?" $85 later [1978] I put a 5-pc. Snap-On set in my chest. Guess which one's still there? Live and learn.

There are certainly things that are worth the price. Then there are things that are just packaged more expensively. Also, there are things that are worth it if you understand, appreciate and/or can use the difference. (The world’s most expensive racquetball racquet will not improve your game if you’re a klutz like me, for example. Music reproduced accurately beyond your ability to hear it is another.)

I saw a test where the tester put cheap box wine in a really nice bottle and the nice wine in a box.

My passion for wine has been rekindled after a few decades. I took a class at Dallas CC last semester on wine & viticulture. It was well worth the $150 I paid, as I learned about, and sampled, wines from all over the world.

You can get a GREAT bottle of wine from Chile, Argentina, Australia, or New Zealand for 1/3 the price of a comparable Napa or French wine.

If you like white wine that's a bit sweet, you can pick up a bottle of Piesporter Spatlese (Mosel/Germany) for $8-9, and the quality will be strikingly close to a similar vintage from the "primo" towns of Urzig or Graach, which sell for $35+ per bottle.

I gave the presentation for German wines in my class, as I lived in Traben-Trarbach for four years while in the Army. During other presentations by local companies, I was referred to as his "German wine expert." I protested, saying that I was merely a grizzled veteran of close to 100 wine fests along the Mosel.

I hope Billy Jeff goes through $15K worth every day. Hillary’s going to need the sympathy votes during the primary season.

The thing is that most cigar smokers will tell you that there is not a whole helluva lot of difference between a $15 stick and $100 stick.

Recently while in the Caribbean I bought some decent Cubans. They were good. But at $60, I did not enjoy them as much as the Padron’s get here.

To each his own I guess. These days I can afford $8 Hauptmanns.

Especially when you use the cigars like Bill does.

I am not nor have every been a slick willy fan.

However, in this case, good for him.

When you have the big bucks enjoy what you like. For me, I like Magners Irish Apple Cider. Costs me about $5 a bottle, but I enjoy a great cold one.

And it will be fun to tell the next lib berating me for enjoying my over priced cider that they are funding BJ Clinton's cigars.

I agree, you can spend the same amount of money on two different brands and one is a work of art and the other is a piece of crap

It’s not so much the actual cost of the cigars but amortizing the hourly rate of the humidors.
