Posted on 08/19/2014 7:48:52 PM PDT by MNDude

Most of us probably don't watch as many cartoons as when were kids, but there's a few that we still love.

What is your favorite cartoon(s) of all time?

Gotta love the classical music that was featured in the vintage 'toons.

"What's up, Doc? ... Who?... Franz Liszt? Never heard of him. Wrong number."

Yeah, and I almost forgot Bugs Bunny in “The Barber of Seville”. Thing is, Mel Blanc sang those parts perfectly in a cartoon-character voice. Unbelievable talent.

But, did you know the actual play on words?

Nope,I had no idea.Russian history was never one of my strong suits. That makes "Boris Badenov" even funnier...more intellectual.

Classic Looney Tunes are good, but the best was Starblazers.

If anyone knows what Starblazers was without googling it, I’ll be impressed heh.

Gotta love the original Jonny Quest (IMDb rating 8.0). The first cartoon series to air during prime time, because of its serious themes. They made an effort to use real places, to depict some realistic animals, and even gave some of the villains realistic motives.

And a LOT of villains got killed, some in pretty awful ways.

Some of the science fiction was realistic, some fantastic, and much of it plausible. Their depiction of ethnic groups was... ethnic.

And don’t forget the superb music and incidental sounds.

Even the opening credits were both scary and incredibly cool.

Kind of reminds me of the '60's sitcom Green Acres. Show seemed fashioned for youngsters, but as an adult I see many hilarious undercurrents that sure missed when I watched it when I was 8 or 9 years old.

Close. But backwards. GREEN ACRES was for adults. Timeless, classic, genius humor that stands up today better than anything from the '50s-'70s. It was a Matt Groenig influence in creating The SIMPSONS.

Alas, the Arnold episodes scored the biggest ratings, so the last year or so they dumbed it down a little and tried appealing more to kids.

Beware.

A lot of these don’t hold up like you’d expect. Can be very disappointing.

Thank you so very much for reminding me of these great gems from my childhood. I went out and started looking for these old gems of Tom and Jerry and it took less than 5 minutes to find them all over youtube and the memories they bring back are quite precious to me!
