A palate cleanser via Time, which notes that the “Redskins Facts” site is behind this and that the team itself is apparently behind “Redskins Facts.” (The anti-Redskins ad that inspired this rebuttal is also embedded below for context.) This is really just a taste of what they’ve got cooking; go to their YouTube account and you’ll find interviews with individual Native Americans defending the name.
It’s an understandable counterattack — if your critics claim you’re victimizing a group, the natural response is to find members of the group who don’t feel victimized — but realistically we’re past the point of argument on this subject. It’s already reached litmus-test status. If you’re a Democrat, social justice demands that the name be changed lickety split; if you’re a Republican, the line must be held against political correctness. (Dan Snyder, for one, is obviously not giving in.) If you’re an average low-information voter, you probably don’t mind the name but don’t care much either way and will eventually be badgered into grudgingly accepting the bien-pensant position just to make this farking issue go away already.
Until then, though, its chief value is as a quick fix for self-congratulation. I’ll leave you with this, from Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, which must be the nadir — so far:
I decided NOT to draft any Washington players (apologies to them) on my #fantasyfootball team in deference to those offended by team name.

Its not what the indians want. Its what the politically correct non-indian liberals want.
I’m a Cowboys fan, and I loath the Redskins, but I’m behind them 110% on this!!!
The owner of the Redskins should put this to rest, come out tomorrow, and tell the world that they’re keeping their name and NOT changing it - no matter what. That’s all.....
After he does that, eventually the morons would shut up about it, at least for awhile. (we all know that liberals never quit though - they’d be back)
I think it would be great if Cowboy fans showed solidarity and wore some Redskins gear when they come here to Dallas.
See, the market works! If all the PC morons do that, it means Redskins players will be available disproportionately to their talent. Those who draft them will do better than they otherwise would have, and the stupid/PC will suffer. I love a happy ending!
Making Dan Snyder sympathetic. I think I’ll go puke.
As a football fan I am offended by the Browns. Simply because I am a Clevelander and am forced to watch them lose!
Go send someone to the Indians territory to get them to sign petitions in favor of keeping their name
Oklahoma means ‘red people’ in Choctaw, a name selected by Choctaw Chief Allen Wright in 1866.
Will the politically correct demand that Oklahoma change its name too?
I also don’t like the Redskins, but I support them on this. Unless they want to change their names to Foreskins. I’d be for that.
David Yeagley, Commanche, Conservative Patriot, may he rest in peace, spoke out on this subject very eloquently from an Indian POV - he considered the elimination of Indian team names as Anti-Indian Warrior. This column is worth the read if you want to hear from someone who had great insight on this and so many issues. (I miss you, David).

William Shakespeare said it best: Much Ado About Nothing.
The problem with this whole thing is, there are a lot of honky commie libs who think that they are Indians. You know the type. Commie libs like that wacky “Lizard With High Cheek Bones” Warren.
But when the hippies started coming up from Denver and other places and getting obnoxious in the 1960s, they really got bonded. A favorite Saturday night activity was lassoing passing hippies off motorcycles, taking the sheep shears to their hair and sending them on their way.
Not bike riders minding their own business, of course, but those being disrespectful, especially to the American flag. One day, they sheared some hippies who belonged to a big motorcycle gang in Denver. They told them they'd be back the next Saturday with the rest of the gang to take their revenge on the town.
When they showed up as promised, every cowboy and Indian from miles around was in town waiting for them. There was a massive fight. Lots of bumps, bruises and cuts, but no serious injuries. The only property damage was a hippie that got thrown through a storefront window. The victorious cowboys and Indians took up a collection to compensate the owner after they gave the hippies the sheep shear treatment and rode them out of town.
[L]ost in this so-called controversy is the fact that, despite the Democrat activists who got Obama to act, polls show the vast majority of Native Americans are not offended by the Redskins moniker. And in fact dozens of Native-majority school districts use the "Redskins" team name themselves, including one Arizona school that is 100% Navajo.
That's a great idea, AND sales opportunity! They could make up special gear for other fans to show support for the Redskins to keep their name/team logo. That would be a 'home run', financially. If I had the means, I'd be working on it right now!
I wonder what they think about the Cleveland name?
