Because it’s the State Fair champ - a gesture from the buyer, supports future farmers, get them good press.
Maybe they’ll keep it around their headquarters to fertilize the landscaping.

Good question. All you can do is eat him. As I figure it, that would come out to be about $75.00 per pound with a generous hanging weight of 1300 lbs.
