The University of Minnesota is working with the Minnesota Vikings in an effort to keep the Washington Redskins name from being used in promotional and game date materials during the NFL teams Nov. 2 game at the schools stadium in Minneapolis, according to an Aug. 1 letter from university President Eric W. Kaler to U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum (D-Minn.).

Oh it’s coming. Also I don’t expect Washington to be on the dollar bill much longer.
College kids are a bunch of morons.
Gophers be digging for things to be offended by.
I'm offended that the team associated with DC is named to imply that they actually represent the nation.
I keep expecting Dan Snyder to make an announcement on April 1, renaming the team to something patently offensive. . .
What a bunch of dumbass pansies!
Like "Democrats"?
They are the Golden Gophers which could be offensive to just regular gophers.
The Bay Area vs. the Land of 10,000 Lakes. The bigger number wins.
‘stands to reason’ and ‘intellectual honesty’ mean nothing to ‘good liberals’.
Inconsistency and hypocrisy are 2 tenets of their faith.
Copycat liberalism — typical for Minnesota.
I am too the point of just being to tired to give a rip.
Strange, New Orleans could have simply added to the George Washington school name & called it “Dr. George Washington Carver School”, for the black scientist & son of slaves, who invented hundreds of commercial products derived from the peanut and the sweet potato & gave these freely to the world without patents. His inventions broke the monopoly of “King Cotton” in the South.
If they wanted to name the school for a black humanitarian who actually did something for society, they could have.
Oops - I forgot. Dr. Carver harbored no racial animosity despite segregation & Jim Crow laws. Not a good role model for today’s liberals.
Do I really expect a response to this email? LOL Maybe we should deluge his office with calls.

Redskins......Vikings
http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/comment/the-vikings-were-feared-for-a-reason-9241032.html
President Kaler:
I applaud your efforts to rid our society of the name Redskins. But please do not stop there. Please read the article I have included about the Vikings.
It is long overdue that the name Vikings be removed from the NFL team in Minnesota. As you are aware, Vikings were mass murderers and committed unspeakable atrocities. The name should no longer be either celebrated or tolerated.
From the article:
Signs are overwhelming that the Vikings waged total war against the Anglo-Saxons from the time of their first recorded raid in 789. These escalated by 865 into invasions by hundreds of ships bent on conquest and settlement. Wormald notes that the kings of East Anglia and Northumbria were defeated and then seemingly killed in a sickeningly gruesome Viking ritual known as “the blood-eagle”, which involved “ripping a victim’s lungs out of his rib-cage, and draping them across his shoulders like eagles’ wings”.
Sir, you are in a unique position to speak out about this issue and lead the way in changing the name from Vikings to something more acceptable. It truly is offensive to many people and we can do better as a society.
Thank you for your consideration.

The REDSKINS should sue if they do this.
Need I say more?
