As we shared in May, Microsoft is prioritizing helping users stay up-to-date with the latest version of Internet Explorer. Today we would like to share important information on migration resources, upgrade guidance, and details on support timelines to help you plan for moving to the latest Internet Explorer browser for your operating system.
Microsoft offers innovative and transformational services for a mobile-first and cloud-first world, so you can do more and achieve more; Internet Explorer is core to this vision. In todays digital world, billions of people use Internet-connected devices, powered by cloud service-based applications, spanning both work and life experiences. Running a modern browser is more important than ever for the fastest, most secure experience on the latest Web sites and services, connecting anytime, anywhere, on any device. Developer and User Benefits
Developers benefit when users stay current on the latest Web browser. Older browsers may not support modern Web standards, so browser fragmentation is a problem for Web site developers. Web app developers, too, can work more efficiently and create better products and product roadmaps if their customers are using modern browsers. Upgrading benefits the developer ecosystem.

After January 12, 2016, only the most recent version of Internet Explorer available for a supported operating system will receive technical support and security updates. For example, customers using Internet Explorer 8, Internet Explorer 9, or Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 7 SP1 should migrate to Internet Explorer 11 to continue receiving security updates and technical support. For more details regarding support timelines on Windows and Windows Embedded, see the Microsoft Support Lifecycle site.

I use 11, no problems. But I also run malwarebytes.
everytime i have had update problems from msquish, it’s been b/c of a damn ie update.
I can’t even get IE to load on my 8.1 computer, I have no idea what happened to it.
8.1 happened to it, damn it. I’m sitting here remote supporting it across the fruited plain for 26 more minutes. It made me grab a beer early tonight.
The latest version of the ‘doze OS I have on any of My personal machines is XP, specifically for compatibility purposes since all the high-end CAD and Prototyping software I have access to runs on the ‘doze platform. I’m not even certain that IEv11 will install, let alone run, on XP.
You're not the only one, mate. I have it turned off on all personal machines that (dual-)boot the 'doze OS, and strongly suggest to customers that they do the same.
Although I did start a thread not too long ago about how a recent 'upgrade' from MS was proving remarkably helpful for many and even considered running it on the machines here for that very reason.
Switched to Firefox (Waterfox 64bit) when XP support ran out - never looked back.
Found it, although it relates to XP and not IE specifically.

I use Opera, personally, but tastes vary. :)

FR is going offline for maintenance in four minutes...
Haven’t used IE since Firefox came out.... No regrets.
I run Vista and can’t upgrade past IE9.
Likewise.
And haven't used Windoze since Vista was announced. It sucked so bad that I took the opportunity to go Mac. Haven't looked back. These days, my PC is a Mac, and my work machines (dozens) are Ubuntu, except for the company accounting server, which is still Windows (sigh!).
Rumor has it that IE greatly improved with the introduction of version 9. But I wouldn't know, since the latest version of Windows I have is XP, and it won't run IE 9.
I use Pale Moon.
Very strange to turn off an XP computer and see the update message. Happened on a desktop and laptop recently. (post April)
XP, Win7, Win8.1 here. Ubuntu coming soon. Have 4-port KVM switch.
I’m guessing that’s the primary reason MS is going this route, to force more users to ‘upgrade’ to a newer version of their ‘doze OS.
Note that you can probably still continue using your installed version of IE past that date, you simply will not be getting any more upgrade patches so security issues will begin going unresolved unless the ‘nix community finds a problem and fixes it.
Which, actually, they have been doing for quite some time.
Try Opera. What could it hurt? www.opera.com.
I dual-boot, running Linux as primary with XP as secondary for certain legacy apps that need to run under the ‘doze platform.
Run Opera on both OS’.
I haven’t used vista and never will... I will say that I’ve been very pleased with Windows 7 ultimate. I have a very high end gaming system and it handles everything very nicely.
