Franklin Graham, the eldest son of evangalist Billy Graham, serves as President and CEO of Samaritan's Purse. Under his leadership, Samaritan's Purse has met the needs of poor, sick and suffering people in over 100 countries. Franklin's first book was written with Jeannette Lockerbie in 1983. The book's title is This One Thing I Do, and is the biography of Bob Pierce, who was the founder of both World Vision and Samaritan's Purse. Last week, the world was introduced to Dr. Kent Brantly, an American doctor who has been recently infectly with the deadly Ebola virus. A missionary from Charlotte N.C., a Nancy Whitebol has also been diagnosed, is still alive at this time, and will be transported to the states next week. Nancy is said to already be incapacited, or in critical condition. This is possibly the worst outbreak so far, and over 700 people have died from it since last December. When you compare the kill ratio to influenza, 700 seems like a very small number. The main difference is that as of now, there is still no actual treatment for any of the five subtypes of Ebola Virus except isolation, hydration, with palliative measures for the headaches and joint pain. Many American's thought it foolish to bring Dr. Brantly into this country, as they are concerned about the virus spreading into the general population.
A huge amount has been written about this latest outbreak of Ebola, and much more will be written before the present wave appears to peak, stablize, then reduce in frequency or potency. Has Reverend Franklin publicly said anything about Dr. Brantly, now fighting for his life in quarantine? I would expect the organization to consider withdrawing all of their representatives and returning them to the states for now, for their own safety. Samaritian's Purse has been of great service to many nations for quite some time. It's my (unrequested) opinion, that for now, taking some element of caution would be prudent. That is my take on it. There are some organizations that refuse to 'back down' from any danger, be it war, wild animals or biologic threats as this one. There are people who remain so thoroughly committed to their mission, that they will knowingly sacrifice their lives for the cause. What do you think? Should Rev. Franklin Graham make any public statements about the two doctors who have now become patients? Or do you think, his statements of 'concern and distress' would actually add little to the conversation but more controversy? Perhaps his silence is due to HIPAA laws that involve not sharing confidential patient information with unauthorized parties. Could be Graham's legal team has told him to stay quiet.

Get your facts straight before you post a vanity thread, Newbie.
Wow. People are being oddly defensive of Franklin Graham, when he really wasn’t attacked.
I wouldn’t do anything but, see to it they are provided the best medical care possible and pray.
My guess? That’s what’s going on.
And I pray for these Samaritans as well.

Are you the one we call to recommend a zot?
First Ebola transmission in the US = martial law?
The medical precautions are the same as for hepatitis, cholera or hiv...gloves and if they are coughing up blood, a facemask. Basic stuff you learn in medical or nursing school.
luckily, unless they cough right into your face, it is not spread by air, like pneumonic plague or tb or bird flu.
I suspect a lot of medical deaths are from gloves that break or no masks, and maybe because there simply is not enough protective gear available. Our mission hospital of 200 patients got 6 pairs of gloves a month, and we reused them, and even reused bandages that were clean ie upperlayer on a wound. True, that was 1980, but these areas are still poor.
Thank you for your response. Very informative from someone in the business.
Franklin Graham has been on the news several times the last few days talking about it.
Nah, they were just high. Even Foscoe was out of reach.
I think the problem was dealing with the dead.
>> I would want to know what they are doing to educate their workers about this disease. bla bla bla &etc &etc
My strong belief is that the MEDICAL DOCTOR who, at great risk to himself, travelled to Africa to aid victims of the disease — as well as the organization that REGULARLY, as their MISSION, furnishes the logistics to enable this kind of Christian aid — know ONE WHOLE CRAPLOAD MORE ABOUT EBOLA than you EVER will.
It is interesting how quickly and easily Obama can ban flights in and out of isreal when it will hurt Jews, but just never can get around to anything that could save the life of hundreds of millions of Americans!
Thanks for posting Franklin Graham’s twitter account link. He seems pretty *communicative* about all of the latest on Dr Brantley.
Two different studies have shown that Ebola can be transmitted by air.
It is just such a mistake as assuming that you know how it can be transmitted that can cause this to become a national disaster. It is both arrogant and foolish to have brought the Ebola virus on to our continent. No one even knows how long a survivor is a carrier of the virus!
May God save us from the arrogance of fools.
