Many many epochs past, before claiming its rightful status as the beloved Oscar-winning trilogy known the world over, "The Lord Of The Rings" was planned to be a single movie, directed by John Madden ("Shakespeare In Love," "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel"). Obviously, that didn't come to pass, and Peter Jackson went in the opposite direction.
Given a nearly unlimited canvas to paint on, and buoyed by global success, the theatrical cuts of each movie were supplemented by extended footage on home video. And when Jackson returned to helm "The Hobbit" after Guillermo del Toro's exit, it wasn't long until the planned two-movie saga was expanded to yet another trilogy. In short, Jackson has an inexhaustible supply of J.R.R. Tolkien's material to put on the big screen, and today at Comic-Con he suggested even more could be coming from "The Lord Of Rings."

Thanks but no thanks!
I already have my non-BLUGH-Ray dvd’s with whatever morsels you tossed us, with that bunch.
Y’all don’ git no mo’ of my dough!
I received the Extended Version DVD box set for Christmas 4 years ago. I am satisfied with that.
Who can blame him? It’s like printing money.
Maybe some day it will be done right. About an hour of film for every 100 pages is what you need to do a book adaptation justice. So we are talking about an 11 1/2 hour movie here.
Agreed, such a long movie would be preferable. My concern now is the creep of social issues into the versions. I do not know his political persuasion, but it seems invariably that most movie makers are lefties.
They are magnificent, but they’re a spectacle better suited for a large screen than a 19” laptop. I have never seen a cavalry charge like the one Jackson filmed. The music is splendid as well. These movies, like the bs, deal not just with ordinary adventure plotting but with the great themes of Christianity and Western Civilization in its battles for the true, the good, and the beautiful. You should sit down and watch them on the biggest screen you can find.
If you like watching the characters walk and walk and walk or ride and ride and ride then the extended version is for you. The movies could have been cut in half and be better for it.
I thought the fact he left out the Scourging of the Shire was criminal.
No Tom Bombadil or Goldberry either
Leaving out the scourging was very, very disappointing. Could be a 4 movie series. But might as well read the books!
What we really need is a holodeck version of lord of the eings....
This sums up “Rings” better than anything I’ve ever seen...

(Warning: Language !)
What, 20 additional minutes of Hobbits walking through the shire? It’s like the director’s cut of “JFK” with 20 more minutes of “back . . . And to the left”
That was excellent. May the Force be with you...
