OK, I do not normally go out of my way for something like this, but I cannot sit back and do nothing when a young girl asks me to help. So, I am stepping up to see if anyone is willing to help, because this is an emergency. I have a friend, has done all she can to find a home for her two black Labrador dogs, Who have been together since they have been puppies. My friend Megan is just 15, and I am a friend of her grandfather, but she friended me on facebook and has become a good friend. Well, Megan's family is moving from Chico to Rancho Cordova and pets are not allowed at the new residence.
One is a male of almost 5 named Liberty, and the other is a female name Freedom of the same age. Liberty is not fixed, but Freedom is, and a home is needed by tomorrow or they go to the pound.
I know this is an extremely shorty notice, but I found out about the situation less than an hour ago, when Megan sent me a personal message pleading for my help. I promised I will do all I can, but even then I could not promise success.
We live in Chico California, so if anyone lives in this vicinity and has an ability to help, I am pleading on behalf of Megan for some help.
This is her plea,My two black labs "Freedom" (Male) & "Liberty" (Female), cannot go with us. I need to know by tomorrow (at the absolute LATEST) if anyone can take them. They're about 5 years old and they're good dogs. Liberty is fixed but Freedom is not. If you can only take one that's fine too. Although they've been together pretty much since birth so it may be hard on them. Contact me as soon as possible. If YOU cant take them ask someone in your family. It would be much appreciated. My grandma said the only other option is to take them to the pound and I don't wanna do that.
Liberty (Male) approx 5 years old
Freedom (Female) approx 5 years old
Part of the problem is they want find a home, and she wants to know who will have them,. She is 15t, and she loves her dogs. She wants them to go to a home, not a shelter if possible.
My mother related an anecdote of her having come "home" from high school and finding that she no longer lived at that address. I don't know exactly how she found her way to her new home, but I suspect that the fact that her grandfather owned a farm nearby probably played a part.
I would never underestimate the amount of chaos created in children's lives by dysfunctional parents.
I have a couple dogs now myself, about their age, very similar breeds.
Or I would consider them myself. They are an outstanding breed.
call 911 and report a robery.
They will send a swat team to kill the dogs!
You might check with bird-dog organization to see if any hunters might be interested. They are great water dogs and all around.
” She wants them to go to a home, not a shelter if possible.”
I can understand that and hope it’s successful, but when the announcement is Saturday night and they have to find a home by the next day, Sunday, it’s not very realistic — I hope it works out, but it’s good to have other options, than surrendering the dogs to a “regular shelter”. At least she would know that they won’t be killed and a good home will be found for them soon.
Good idea thanks.
I agree, and that may be the end result if my last ditch effort fails. But for now I am not giving up on her.
Can the family afford to board them at a decent place for a few days? It would buy them some time to find a good home.
No, the reason they are moving in the first place is because of finances and better opportunity.
gosh I wish I was in Sacramento this week, Beautiful dogs.
here’s the norcal lab rescue. no number but there is an email.

Thank you much.
Not to the pound, please, to some organization that will help and not kill. Not hard to find.
I’m glad you will, I expect, help the dogs to find a home.
But I’ve never understood people who move to a place where they can’t take the pet portion of their family.
It’s like someone giving their two youngest children up for adoption because they are moving to a two-bedroom apartment.
My brother lives on acreage just north of there in Red Bluff. I’ve sent him a message. Please PM me with your contact info, in case he’s interested.
I doubt the Pound is open on Sunday
Have you contacted breed rescue? I am in Illinois, and thus can’t really help, but I am involved in breed rescue for a different breed (Keeshonden), and there should be a Lab rescue group in your area, just do an internet search. Rescue groups are experts at taking dogs on short notice, putting them in foster homes, and finding them forever homes after that. Get in touch with one of those, and they should be all the help you need.
You do not know the whole situation.
And no, it is not. Not at all.
