OK, I do not normally go out of my way for something like this, but I cannot sit back and do nothing when a young girl asks me to help. So, I am stepping up to see if anyone is willing to help, because this is an emergency. I have a friend, has done all she can to find a home for her two black Labrador dogs, Who have been together since they have been puppies. My friend Megan is just 15, and I am a friend of her grandfather, but she friended me on facebook and has become a good friend. Well, Megan's family is moving from Chico to Rancho Cordova and pets are not allowed at the new residence.
One is a male of almost 5 named Liberty, and the other is a female name Freedom of the same age. Liberty is not fixed, but Freedom is, and a home is needed by tomorrow or they go to the pound.
I know this is an extremely shorty notice, but I found out about the situation less than an hour ago, when Megan sent me a personal message pleading for my help. I promised I will do all I can, but even then I could not promise success.
We live in Chico California, so if anyone lives in this vicinity and has an ability to help, I am pleading on behalf of Megan for some help.
This is her plea,My two black labs "Freedom" (Male) & "Liberty" (Female), cannot go with us. I need to know by tomorrow (at the absolute LATEST) if anyone can take them. They're about 5 years old and they're good dogs. Liberty is fixed but Freedom is not. If you can only take one that's fine too. Although they've been together pretty much since birth so it may be hard on them. Contact me as soon as possible. If YOU cant take them ask someone in your family. It would be much appreciated. My grandma said the only other option is to take them to the pound and I don't wanna do that.
Liberty (Male) approx 5 years old
Freedom (Female) approx 5 years old
Doggieping — can anyone help?
I’ve posted to my Facebook friends, but how can people contact you or her?
” a home is needed by tomorrow or they go to the pound. “
This is REALLY short notice — is there somewhere they could be kept for a few days or a couple of weeks?
I had a chocolate (liver color) lab.
I’ve known several dogs in my life, I’m now quite old, and the lab was probably the best all around: temperment, intelligence, friendly—the whole package.
He was a good boy and I still miss him.
Contact me I will be here
The family is in Northern Ca, about 100 mikles North of Sacramento
I don’t know where you are located, but there are organizations throughout the U.S. that work for Labrador Retriever rescues. Look it up by doing a search; depends on what part of the country you’re in.
Freedom is the male, Liberty is the female.
The male is fixed.
OOPs.
Please tell your friend to try to find a no-kill animal shelter — some of those take dogs and try to get them adopted.
Looks like she is in N CA— I heard of a place in So CA, in the LA area that she can at least call, maybe they can recommend a place closer to her that would take the dogs.

“Pet Orphans is a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization dedicated to the advancement of companion animal welfare and to combating overpopulation, abandonment and the need for euthanasia. We have been rescuing, rehabilitating and placing animals in loving “forever homes” for 40 years”
Something like this would be an option on such short notice.
If they really care for the dogs, they might even want to donate to such organization for taking the dogs.
She should check in her area, or call up Pet Orphans and maybe they know of similar no-kill shelters in her area.
That’s not going to help; I can’t monitor the Facebook post, I’m afraid.
Thank you, I will do a search.
Well, I put the link to this post, so they can join and write you here if they’re not a member of FR, I guess. That’s the best I can do.
Thanks, I gave her the URL link to this thread and will keep in touch with her.
Sorry, posted So. CA info instead of No. CA. Here’s the right info in case no one else can help:
