This recount, found on The Meta Picture, tells the story of one restaurants quest to find out why they kept getting bad reviews despite serving the same number of customers on a daily basis.
It took a look into their past to discover exactly what has changed in the last ten years and their findings tell more about how we as a country have changed possibly, for the worse.
Now, although this particular instance may or may not be true, it tells a story that is all too common today in America.
We are so engrossed in ourselves and in our technology that we lose sight of the importance of the relationships we have and the importance of experiencing things rather than recording them.
Sometimes we just need to put the phone away and get back to the basics.
If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.
This sounds to me like the reason that “smartphone roulette” is a thing.
For those of you unfamiliar with it, at a restaurant, everyone puts their smartphones on the table. The first person to pick theirs up picks up the tab for the entire party.
It’s not the phones. It’s that more people are more self-centered, spoiled and demanding.
The phone thing everywhere drives me crazy.
thanks for the post. glad I looked at the thread, I thought
it might not be worth it.
Get rid of the free WIFI.
Make sure the building is a great Faraday cage.
Maybe they should put up a no phone sign?
bttt
Smartphones are now like cigarettes. Back when you could smoke almost anywhere the biggest complaint of staff was after the bill was paid the smokers would sit for a while and chat and smoke making it hard to turn the tables.
Now after the bill is paid they pull out their phones and start doing stuff on them and you can’t turn the tables.
My other pet peeve is parking lots. Especially grocery stores. People load the car, get in, pull out the phone and sit in a good spot for 10-30 minutes messing with the phone. Probably Tweeting what they bought.
It’s rude, useless and selfish.
I have always hated smart phones. Basic cell phones are fine, but when they started turning phones into entertainment centers, everyone turned into idiots.
It takes an average of 3 minutes to take picture of their food? Seriously? Do cellphones come with Polaroid film in them?
If it takes you 3 minutes to get a pic of your plate, maybe you are too dumb to have a phone!!
While I’d like to think this is true, it’s hard to believe they’re serving the same number of customers but those customers are taking up to double the seating time.
and... just... think... what... this... electronic... pacifier... is... doing... to... commute... times... in... traffic.
I sat through the credits of the Python final show Sunday and still couldn't leave the row in either direction for all of the people with their heads focused on the electronic pacifier in their laps.
THAT’S a great idea!
Smart phones.....stupid people.
The other day I was in a crowded parking lot...and two teenage boys come out and open the door to their car. I wait, thinking I’m about to get a spot.
They started putting gel in their hair, spraying on deodorant, and generally prettying themselves up...then they got out and walked back in the restaurant.
Ack, now that’s a parking spot tease!
OMG my husband read this the other day!
It is so true - although people have been obsessed with “phones” (truly or not) since the boom in the mid ‘90s.
But now, I guess, since they “text” and can be silent, it’s even worse. “I’m not bothering anyone so....”
Oh yes you are bothering me with your rudeness!
PUT DOWN THE DAMN “PHONE”!
