It is hardly the way to win over tourists, but this Irish cafe doesn't seem to care.
Peter's Place, a pretty eatery in County Kerry, has placed a notice in its window banning 'loud American's from entering.
The cafe lists the undesirables it would prefer not to receive in its establishment, including bus and coach tours and rowdy tourists from across the Pond.

Can’t blame him for not wanting to put up with bus and coach tours. They bring large numbers of people who have a limited amount of time to be served. He specifically said “loud-mouth Americans” which to me doesn’t include every American. Personally, I preferred my visit to Scotland over Ireland. Skip Belfast especially. It seems to have an atmosphere of doom and gloom hanging over it.
Sorry, but you’re emphasizing his point. “the owner can just go F himself”??? Really?? Maybe its just an elderly proprietor who prefers a nice sleepy pub for the town folk, and is tired of dealing with obnoxious Americans. Given your response, i’m now much more sympathetic.
Yeah, but if they are loud, American *AND* a member of the LGBT tribe, will he have to serve them?
Can’t have Yanks outshouting the Irish drunks now can we?
I need that sign for my home... and cube... maybe put it on a hat too. I really hate loud people
Why in the #311 would any American leave these shores to begin with !! It’s beyond me.
Like there’s nothing to see in THIS country on vacay???
Maybe I have just been unfortunate, but ever Australian and New Zealander I have encountered on FR have been SNOB when they weren’t just being SOBs. We need know visitor from across the ponds!
I have traveled extensively and am mortified at The Ugly American. Yes, they are loud, obnoxious and dress like homeless people. They have no qualms about discussing very loudly what is wrong with the place they are in, how bad the food is and how ‘ya just can’t get a good haaaarrrrd roll’ in Europe. I despise them too and will speak Italian so as not to be painted with the same brush. That being said, I have been at a quaint hotel in Florence where American high school teenagers spent the night. They were served the breakfast paid for with their tour but, decided to raid the continental breakfast laid out for the hotel guests and completely emptied it, leaving nothing for the hotel customers. It was beyond disgusting.
Exactly. Most people haven’t even seen all the great stuff within a 300 mile radius from where they live.
I have a list of stuff within 300 miles I want to see.
Alamo, NASA Mission Control, Battleship Texas, Aircraft Carrier USS Lexington (I think that’s the name) and the Dr. Pepper Museum are all on it.
Luck he didn’t ban the hyphenated Americans then he be a bad man and not a good man...
Unless its Loud-Americans that he banned ?
Maybe the Loud, like Gay, are just born that way
His cafe and his rules.
If like I have you have seen and endured some of our fellow Americans abroad you would not want to be around them either. Some of our fellow Americans need to learn some manners
No, naturalman is very polite and highly informative about Australian politics. I’m glad he posts here.
I guess loud Americans interfere with the drunken crying and fights that usually go on in the pub.
“... a pretty eatery...”
Sounds like code words for “queer” eatery, which should for most people, be avoided at all costs.
This
How likely is it that these “loud Americans” are liberal travelers? Most people that I know that travel abroad are more of the liberal/democrat leaning.
SO...THEY are leaving a bad impression of Americans. ;P
Calm down folks - he only means the non-gay ones, as required by law.
