With liberals pining for a Clinton challenger, ambitious Democrats get in position (Jerry Brown)
The Washington Post ^ | 7/19/2014 | Philip Rucker and Robert Costa

DETROIT — On the night before her Friday keynote address to a gathering of progressive activists here, Sen. Elizabeth Warren tried to slip into a hotel restaurant for a quiet dinner. But the former law professor has become a liberal superstar, and when a few admirers spotted her walking to the corner of the dining room, they cheered loudly. A moment later, more joined in the applause. Then one urged her, “Run for president!”

The next morning at Netroots Nation, where Warren (D-Mass.) gave a fiery sermon for economic populism — “The game is rigged, and it isn’t right!” — scores of swooning supporters wore faux-straw boater hats with “Warren for President” stickers and chanted, “Run, Liz, run!”

Even as Hillary Rodham Clinton looms as the overwhelming favorite for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, the party’s base is stirring for a primary fight. There’s a pining for someone else, and a medley of ambitious Democrats are making moves — many of them previously unreported — to position themselves to perhaps be that someone.

These are the kinds of choices that warm the deluded hearts of the American people.

“Laugh at Warren all you want FReepers. “

Agreed, Hillary got beaten by a nonentity last time out. Not really sure Warren could pull things off like Obama did, but you are right to be wary.

Laugh at Warren all you want FReepers.

I'm not laughing; she reminds me of the Eugene McCarthy campaign in early 1968, which at the time was seen as a quixotic attack from the left on LBJ, but which took him down, only to see RFK brush McCarthy aside. Whether Brown sees himself as the RFK of 2016, it's too soon to tell.

She wants it so bad, she probably would. Who would win? Ted Cruz!

Can you imagine a race with three women? Warren D, Hillary I, Palin R.

The strategy is, by running left-wing nuts alongside Hillary, she looks to be almost acceptable in comparison. Young democrats have no interest in Mrs. Clinton after getting burned with Obama. They’ve learned their lesson about voting for someone just because they’re the first “fill in the blank” president.

Interesting. I remember well the Texas primary, which was the end of Hitlery. The community organizers got to the caucus rooms early and wouldn’t let her supporters in. Amazed that someone was more crooked than she, she bowed out, but probably not until the SofS job was safely in her pocket.

How can a president “overturn the Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby” decision, as the article states Elizabeth Warren vows to do? What is this, an autocracy?

How come no conservative president has “reversed” Roe vs. Wade, a law which has dismembered/executed 60 million little tykes?

Brown would be preferable to Clinton, Warren and Biden. There I’ve said it. Now I’ve got to go and wash my mouth out with soap . . . Followed by a good whiskey.

One advantage of Moonbeam is that he would be stoned so much of the time that he might accidentally make a good decision now and then.

If Jerry Brown had confronted Carter earlier in ‘76, I am confident he would have won the Democrat nomination. Like Frank Church and others, he misread the dynamic of the then new extensive primary system under the McGovern rule changes.

He ran again in ‘80, when Ted Kennedy sucked the air out of the room, and Brown going “moonbeam” after ‘76 made him seem less serious. By ‘92, he was back, and actually won as the anti-Bill Clinton candidate in a number of areas, including my then state of CT.

If he runs again, he is entering Harold Stassen territory. His old “Moonbeam” foibles seem rather staid compared to Obama and even WJC.

He is way too old now to be a force among the Dems. However, he could take some votes away from a would be insurgent.

Gov. Moonbeam is 76, attended Yale the University of California at Bezerkeley, married former attorney and businesswoman, Anne Brown, in 2005 after a 15 year courtship. She is credited with keeping the looney-toon Brown on a more even keel in recent years. She is 20 years younger than he.

Hi. You should check out Ted Cruz’ speech from last night at Western Conservative Summit. He gave one of the best explanations of crony corporatism and why it is a very bad thing I have ever heard.
