Pop-up Blocker Help, Please
7/11/14

Posted on 07/11/2014 11:22:42 AM PDT by pabianice

I am being buried by pop-ups. Every third screen I see is another pop-up, using either IExplorer or Firefox. When I log into FR I get a flashing pop-up to the left of the screen from "WebCrawl." It has never been this bad before.

Recommendations, please for a blocker.

FWIW--I recommend AdBlocker Plus for Firefox.

Install the Ad Block Plus add-on in Firefox.

Click “Tools” on the top menu and select “Add-ons.”

It also never hurts to install and run Malwarebytes.

Ad Blocker. It’s free. Also Spybot and run once a week.

You’re probably infected with some form of malware. Clean that up and then install an ad blocker. In general, don’t use Internet Explorer unless you have to; I’m less and less fond of Firefox as time goes on, but it’s still superior in terms of keeping your system safe.

I’d also look at using Opera or Safari instead, not only are they both safer than IE, they’re generally not as often targeted by malware.

No popup ads here , that’s why Freep has funding drives ,, you have unwittingly installed malware ,, I suggest getting ADAWARE , Malwarebytes and “SpyBot Search and Destroy” ,, I use filehippo.com ...

With Firefox go to Tools and plug ins. There a number of good plug ins and add ons to fix this. However, download a copy of Malwarebytes and run this first . You may have malware giving you these pop ups .

In Explorer, click on the little gear on the far right, top. Go to “internet options.” Select “privacy” tab. Select “pop-up blocker.” Check it. Look at “option” to see that somebody hasn’t allowed the world to opt out.

I am being buried by pop-ups.

You picked up some malware by clicking on some blog.

It's always the dang blogs.

Ditch explorer.

In palemoon (probably the same in firefox) go to Tools/Options/Content and be sure the check-box “block popup windows” is checked.

If it’s happening while you’re on FR you’ve got some malicious code attached to your browser. You might try something like spybot or adaware to clean it up. We have no pop ups on FR. Or perhaps just clear your local cache, delete cookies and reboot. That sometimes clears up weird problems.

Also Better Privacy which deletes Super Cookies commonly known as LSO’s (Local Shared Object) and Do not Track me. These are all add ons in your browser tool bar.

Question, guys. I've had Malwarebytes for sometime and so far I've liked it. What do you guys think of Trend Micro? I've heard having both are good for the best protection.

(With Trend Micro you have to renew & pay every year but Malwarebytes is a pay one time only deal, so I kept Malwarebytes and let Trend Micro go.)
