The Reign Of Windows At Work 'Is Coming To An End' And Macs Are Rising Fast

It's been clear for some time that the iPad has taken the enterprise by storm as employees tote it to work and companies buy fleets of them. But Apple's PC, the Mac, has never been as dominant in the workplace, until now, according to new research from long-time Microsoft rival, VMware.

VMware queried 376 IT professionals and found that they are increasingly being asked to buy and/or support Macs in the enterprise by employees who want Macs, not Windows machines.

"Microsoft Windows has dominated enterprise desktops for close to three decades but it appears its reign is coming to an end. As BYOPC ["Bring Your Own PC"] and BYOD [Bring Your Own Device] continue to transform the enterprise, Macs have become a popular and preferred option compared to Windows PCs," says Erik Frieberg, VP of Marketing, End-User Computing, VMware, in the report.

Hmmm I don’t remember, but I would think it does. It’s 200 sum odd miles away right now (at home). I’ll look when I get back. Are you thinking external DD? And does that mean it’s possible to “bypass” the virus or whatever & get it to boot up?

If you boot up Linux from USB, which should be possible, you might be able to root out the virus. I am assuming you can get into the BiOS to mae it boot from a USB before the hdd.

What was that all about? There's all the proof you need that the Mac fanboys are a cult and it's too bad, they think they're smarter than everyone else, and the fact that at the Apple store the employees are referred to as geniuses, where's Jim Jones and his drug laced flavor aid?

I like computers but they're a tool, not some hipster doofiis's pathetic life.

Macs are great computers but that's all they are, to these wannabee hipsters, it's their lifestyle, pretty sad.

Have you though of putting in a 340? I think they were only available for two years but they rock for an A engine. I'm pretty sure that Mopar never put matching numbers in their vehicles ( I could be wrong on that) so while you should keep the 270, a 340 kicks some serious *ss and doesn't weigh a ton like the B motors, 383, 413, 426 Hemi or normal. You could put in a B motor but it requires welding in a new crossmember and if you go the 426 Hemi route, those things weigh a ton. A 440 six pack puts out 420 Hp and the hemi puts out 425 and weighs a ton and due to the long length of the exhaust rocker arms, it has a low redline. Of course everyone knows the manufacturers were lying about their HP numbers to fool insurance companies but it didn't work.

I would consider putting in disks on the rear, the job is reversible although I wonder how they deal with the parking brake. C3 Vettes had 4 wheels disks but the emergency brakes were drums inside the rotor hat.

Unless you're going for competition then everything has to be as it left the factory including the chalk marks on the pumpkin, tranny and other places and of course, you need the correct bias ply tires. I'd like to see some pics. 60s Mopars as well as other manufacturers were some awesome vehicles. Too bad Mopar stopped making Challengers and Cudas in 1973.

Restoring barracudas from my childhood

Yes, I'm sure that when he was 10 years old a Cuda was his favorite car and now he's trying to recapture those glory years of a ten year old.

You are familiar with the term projection?

Are you just jealous that you have to have your life partner change a flat?

I love building engines and cars, you get such satisfaction when it comes to life when you first turn the key, at least it does when I do the build.

You don't know how to wrench or don't want to, no big deal, it does take time and a lot of people's time is taken by work and family but you don't have to get all snively because other can do what you cannot.

Sticking with the 273, and trying to get as near to original as possible. (But not, necessarily, going for "concours" competition...)

The "Drag Dart" package was a factory / dealer add-in, so, rather than try to fuel its 11:1 CR, I'm rebuilding to the "S" Commando package version with its "only" 10.5:1 CR aluminum pistons.

I have some twisty East Texas roads picked out where I'd love to take it with the driver's window down and enjoy the drive -- and its high rpm "Fish Song" from that resonator-tuned exhaust. -- one more time. (...a "bucket list" item...) '-)

Then it will go to one of my kids -- after I've shown selected grandkids what a 1960's "muscle / pony" car set up for road racing could do...

~~~~~~~~~~
BTW, Two items I "DE-ordered" from the "S" package were the Goodyear "Blue Streak" bias-ply racing tires and the factory tach.
I couldn't see spending $1250 for very fast-wearing rubber -- on a $3400 car! So, as soon as I could, I hung Michelin Radials on it -- and had better cornering than the Blue Streaks I drove on other "Pure 'S'" cars.
And the factory "S" package tach was mounted 'way down at lower left of the dash -- an "eyeballs in/eyeballs out" disaster! So I hung my Stewart Warner "front & center" and was quite happy with it...
I know nothing about your cars. I did see barracuda dude’s car restoration name dropping and called it out for what it is. BTW I have not restored cars but done mechanical work. Changed a clutch by myself in the rain. So I have been there, though obviously not as much as you and apple barracuda guy
BTW, I spec-ordered the Barracuda after I completed 4+ years in the 'Nam-era USAF -- and after researching both it and the Mustang...
I'm now over the 3/4 century mark -- so much for "childhood" remarks... '-)
Hey, did it come with fiberglass fenders and hood?
I can understand keeping it stock, I made sure everything on my Vette matched the tank sticker although I didn’t go as far as marking the parts with chalk as they did during the build.
The big joke about matching numbers is that if you deck the block, you wipe out the numbers, at least on a Chevy so with a punch set, you could put any number you wanted.
The biggest change I made was using a pertronix sensor instead of points and capacitor. Those bias ply tires are horrible but for concours, you gotta have em. The difference between bias ply and radials is like night and day and they’re way cheaper. I assume with a moniker like TEXnMA that maybe they have high octane fuel where you’re at unless the ma means you’re now in Mass. Here in California we get 91 octane on a good day and it requires retarding the distributor which affects power and especially, throttle response. 10.5 pistons should be fine if you use the right cam to control the cylinder pressure. Is it a four speed or a Torgueflight?
One thing I really love about Mopars is the torsion bar suspension, turn a bolt and you have instant front ride level adjustment.
With Chrysler’s gear reduction starter, you could have diesel compression and it would crank over fast.
Are the pistons flat tops with eyes for valve clearance or are they domed pistons?
What kind of cam are you going for? I don’t remember how you adjust an A motor’s valves but the stock setup in a B motor was lame and it is well worth it to get the adjustable rocker arms. Are you going with a roller cam? If you’re going for big lift, I would get adjustable rockers with a roller tip so it doesn’t put a lot of sideways strain on the valve itself.
We read the firewall logs, I would keep that in mind if I was you.
Oooh, scary. Kinda like a Lois Lerner clone threatening an audit if'n she don't like yur type.
So some user wants to use a Mac and we're supposed to bend over for him...
Yes. Because servicing the technical needs of the business is IT's job, not gatekeeping them. Ain't nothing sacred about MS operating systems. If that user is more productive for the company on a Mac, or Unix or a Univac or an abacus, your job is to make it so, not get pissy over your turf and try to force all users into your mold. The users are the ones making product and money for the company.
Seriously, you sound just like an entrenched DC bureaucrat, writing one-size-shall-fit-all regulations, and throwing insults at anyone who questions your author-i-tay. You seem to have forgotten that the purpose of IT is to service, not dictate.
That goes back to a previous post where we would read the logs and one guy would download files with the name like 'she male', pretty funny.
If you read the whole thread you would realize that, that is exactly what I was saying, is there a business need to use a Mac? Then we would support it. Just because someone has a Mac at home and they don't want to use Windows is not a business need and where did I get 'pissy'? I swear, it seems Mac users are so convinced of the superiority of their system whether true or not that they think that thay and not the CIO determine what devices are on the network.
I've actually had a Mac for over a year, it was a nice machine but inside the quality was very interesting. This was in 2004 and it was an Imac, I know, they're the bottom of the line but it worked and never crashed although the drive died which has nothing to do with Apple.
So you're basing your opinions on an 11 year old version of OSX, and a ten year out-of-date version of the iMac? Which was it? The hemispherical flat panel G4, or the all-in-one G5? Either one shipped with OSX.3 Panther. Those are antiques compared to todays' modern Macs. . . Those Macs were powered by PowerPC processors, not Intel processors. More demonstration of your ignorance of the Mac platform.
My biggest problem I had with a Mac is that a friend had an SE?? the one with the monitor in the case. Apple, in their infinite wisdom, has you drag the floppy to the trash to eject it. It's cool when it works but when it doesn't, it's actually very easy to fix IF you have the correct tools. The worse part is they use a torx screw and the tool needs to be around a foot long to reach the screw. I had to cut one of my Torx fold out tools and rig it to work. It took longer to do that than fix the floppy. I was impressed with the insides, it looked very clean and it didn't have the Oops, we made a mistake so we have to have a new rev and solder a wire (or several) to fix the issue whatever it is. When I was a bench tech, I always wondered about the people who didn't get the fix.
Now you reach back 25-27 years to the Mac SE??? It was never necessary to open the Mac SE's case to eject a recalcitrant disk unless the drive itself was DOA. If dragging the disk icon to the trash, which converts to an eject icon, fails to work, then CTRL-CLICK on a single-button mouse, right click on a dual-button mouse, reveals a contextual pop-up menu that includes an "eject" option. There's also a drop-down menu option to eject when an ejectable device's icon is selected. If all those fail, reboot while holding down the mouse button. If that fails, use the handy-dandy, all-purpose Apple disk ejector tool:
Simply unfold one leg, insert unfolded leg at right end of disk slot, engage manual eject lever, and push until disk ejects. Done. Never fails and works on every Apple Mac model with a floppy or optical drive without manual eject button.
I've seen a few "oops!" fixes in Macs over the years, but not many. Apple has been known to have to send out an "oops" software update a day or two after a major software release, too. It happens.
I've been thinking of getting a tablet. A man in our fellowship has one and it makes it incredibly easy to go to the verse the Pastor is referencing; that is an awesome way to follow the Pastor. I don't know if I should get the Apple version or the myriad of clones out there. I've got an Iphone because AT&T offered it for a dollar. It has a bunch of feature but I only use it to make phone calls, still it was worth a dollar and I haven't had the battery issues folks are whining about. The only downside is that if you have Bluetooth enabled, it suck the battery dry quickly. I don;t think Apple did this on purpose and my wives Samsung has a horrible battery life span. Doing nothing, you have to charge it only after twelve hours.
I would recommend the iPad, of course, but for good reasons. . . Since you already have an iPhone, everything you do on the iPhone will be mirrored on your iPad, and vice-verse, notes, mail, purchases, bookmarks, etc. When iOS 8 is released, you'll be able to start something on your iPhone, say an email, finish it on the iPad. Or you'll be able to answer the phone on your iPad. If you do get a Mac, you can do the same on it. I.e., you're working on your Mac and your iPhone rings in the other room. . . just answer it on your Mac. . . then pick up the call on your iPad, where you've sent your work from your Mac to finish later while sitting in the park.
It was a positive experience, what's your problem, fanboy?
Sorry to disappoint but I know a lot about the Mac platform and it was an anecdote, want a link to a dictionary?
Once again it was a true anecdote and I said it was the only real problem I had. Now I hate to deflate your Mac cred but the floppy was physically stuck, no amount of button pushing or paperclips could fix that. Do you test your blood pressure a lot, I recommend you do so since such a little problem has you frothing at the mouth.
Sorry but your paper clip trick would not have worked since the mechanism was bent for whatever reason.
I would recommend the iPad, of course, but for good reasons. . . I'm shocked that you would recommend an Apple platform and here I thought you were an unbiased source.
I use my Iphone to make phone calls, I don't use all the little apps that are making people speak like they're writing a text. I want the tablet for one purpose, to put on a couple complete Bibles and be able to search them instantly. I don't social media, I don't text. I speak English.
Do you get paid to shill for Apple? You spend a lot of time as a Mac evangelist and your condescending, 'I'm smarter than everybody because I use a Mac' is wearing rather thin.
I feel sorry for people whose identity is based on the computer they own, sad...
Works great
“I would have taken that deal in a heartbeat.... I WOULD take that deal offered.”
It sounded like a fair deal to me. I’ve all ways lived by put your money where your mouth is, if you want something besides the standard issue.
One of the apparent problems re costs is Dell, HP and other semi name brand PC makers make deals with big companies with significant savings and Apple doesn’t make deals.
One of our younger relatives was accepted to attend a Catholic private school, and the students are required to buy the big IPAD with maximum memory, a key board and case. Apple’s big discount was a name tag attached to her IPAD with zero discount via the school. We bought her IPAD, and could have gotten the same IPAD at Target at the same price without the name tag. If we had timed the purchase right, Target would have given a store gift card for $50 to $100.
It will be interesting if our relative’s company decides to go for a Samsung phone instead of an I phone with the same deal.
