NEW YORK -- There's just no stopping "Jaws."
Joey Chestnut scarfed down 61 hot dogs in 10 minutes to win his eighth consecutive championship, barely beating Matt Stonie at the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island on Friday.
The main course? That came just before the contest, when the 30-year-old Chestnut proposed on the event stage, just steps from the beach, to longtime girlfriend Neslie Ricasa, who said yes.
Stonie, who was second in 2013 with 51 dogs, again was the runner-up with 56. Tim "Eater X" Janus was third with 44.
While it was more of the same for the men, there was a new women's champion as Miki Sudo shocked three-time defending champion Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas by wolfing down 34 franks and buns in 10 minutes.

Whoops -— the simulation video of the stomach is the video right after the linked one.
The close ups are pretty nasty but no one forced you to watch.
Gave up on this when it ceased to be about eating and more about shoving things whole down the gullet.
Nothing there having to do with the title....
I explained in a quick answer that the correct video is after the first one on ESPN.
I realize no one forced me to watch. But does that preclude me from characterizing what I saw? We make negative comments about Obama speeches that no one forced us to watch. Happy 4th.
Were there any reversals?
If anyone is interested there’s a pretty fun book called “Horseman of the Esophagus” documenting and interviewing these professional gurgitators.
No malice intended - ready for a hot dog yet? Happy 4th back at you.
Same feeling I had when ESPN televised Urkel’s inauguration
The average American annually eats only nine more hot dogs than what Joey "Jaws" Chestnut put away in 10 minutes.

You may laugh, my FRiend, but Joey Chestnut ate 61 more hot dogs than I have eaten since 1991. Yep, this right winger has not had meat or chicken since 1991. I have outlived my dad and his dad by 9 years and have clean arteries. But I am not a fanatic and don’t tell others what to do. It would be nice, however, if the animals raised for food were treated more humanely. I know I need protein and get that from the occasional salmon, along with beans, cheese, milk, nuts, etc.
I may just have a couple veggie dogs today. With loads of onions, grated parmesan, and mustard, they are actually pretty good. LOL
I ate as many hot dogs last year as the number of real birth certificates produced by the guy squatting in our White House.
Well better than doing it after. And these “disgusting displays” are his job.
For me to eat a hot dog it has to be BBQ’d. That’s a must.
Good on ya, Doug. I want you to live long enough to attend my 100th birthaday ... in 2045. Then you can dance with my ex wives.
