Mick Jagger: Monty Python 'are wrinkly old men trying to relive their youth'

Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger poked fun at the Monty Python stars on Monday ahead of the comedy troupe's reunion concerts this week as "a bunch of wrinkly old men trying to relive their youth and make a load of money."

Appearing in a video shown at the Monty Python Live (mostly) news conference at a central London theater, Jagger is asked by his assistant if he wants tickets for the shows. The singer, who is watching the World Cup football on TV with bandmate Charlie Watts, replies: "Who wants to see that again? It was funny in the 60s."

He adds: "The best one died years ago. Maybe back in the 70s it was fantastic -- it was the funniest thing. We've seen it all before. I mean they've put it all up on YouTube."

The humor-impaired post ratio on this thread is disturbing.

Lol...agreed. I didn't think the humor could have been more blatantly obvious.

“BTW, I’d pay ANYTHING to see the Pythons if they gave a final tour in the U.S.”

Sadly, that looks very unlikely. It’s been hard enough to convince them to do the London shows. The last show at the 02 is already being billed as Python’s last ever live performance.

Can’t imagine Michael Palin or Terry Jones wanting to do another American tour, maybe a one off performance if the London shows do well though? Never say never.

They didn’t pay the producer of Monty Python and the holy Grail his share of the royalties from Spamalot. He took them to court and won. They appealed and appealed, losing every time and also refusing several offers by him to settle the suit.

In the end, between the back royalties, their legal bills and his (Britain is loser pays) they apparently lost more money on Spamalot than they made and are having to do this recoup their losses.

Ironically, Cleese has been the most adamant over the years about not doing a reunion, but the producer said he thinks Cleese and Idol were the ones who kept pushing the others not to settle and got them into their financial jam.

Well, it was a self depreciating promo for the Python which I thought actually showed some character. But I will observe that Jagger looks an awful lot like Don Knotts (with apologies to Mr. Knotts).

Perhaps character and Jagger are infrequent companions but I though he showed same on the Stones recent tour in Israel.

I didn’t know that, thanks for the update! I do know Cleese had to do a standup several years ago to pay for his divorce. It was all about how awful his last wife was. Then I met her! She was as nice as they come, lol.

Depending on where you live, you can see the final London show broadcast live on 7/20 in select movie theaters. Or rebroadcasts in other cities later. You can search for showtimes at this link.

I like Monty Python's humour; They are entertaining to me. The Rolling Stones too. So what if they are old. So am I.
