When I was 5 years old, my mom, sister and I traveled by bus from Texas to Oregon. Now my Grammy would say that the first words I said to her when I got off the bus were “Hi Grammy! Got a quarter?” (There must have been a gum ball machine close by) today at her funeral, I placed a quarter in her hand, and told her she could have it back. The beautiful part about this was that the date on the quarter is the year we came to visit all those years ago. And this was unplanned!
Oh, great! My screen is getting blurry.
I went from Texas to Oregon many years ago, too, and then stayed there 40 years. Almost ten years ago, I went back to Texas to take care of my dad, until he died a few years afterward.
What part of Oregon was your grandmother in? I was in the Portland area.
Lovely story. You made me cry. Missing my mother—gone since 2007. She would have been 102 on June 22.
Hugs to you in your grief. Prayers.
