Officiating was a bit rough today in both matches. Howard Webb did get the hand ball call correct.
Webb should have issued a yellow in the first few minutes for the rough challenge. Had he set the tone early on that rough play wasn’t going to be tolerated, the teams would have adjusted and the match would have gone more smoothly and much more fun to watch. He had a tough task since the teams don’t seem to like each other.
I expect Colombia to beat Brazil. Colombia has been the best team in the tournament so far.
I see Premier League teams falling all over themselves to make a deal with Monaco to get Rodriquez.
He’s the New Maradona...
Colombia has not lost a match yet in the WC....
Same is true today. The Dutch should have had two spot kicks.
Robben made a mental error when he did not run through the sliding tackle on his run into the penalty box from the right side. He would have been tripped and awarded an easy penalty.
One of the annoying things about fouls, is how the referees tend to take into account the rigid results of calling them before blowing the whistle.
For example, in the Costa Rica game now, the Greek guy broke into the free in the penalty box, and took a lovely shot that was blocked by the goalie. But after he kicked, the CRC guy slid under his legs, with studs up, hitting him and knocking him over. Never even touched the ball.
Anywhere else on the field, that would have been an illegal challenge from behind, and there’d be a free kick and the guy would have a yellow card. In fact, they just did that call a little while ago.
But no way the ref is going to give a penalty kick when the foul happened AFTER the guy had a clean shot at the goalie.
Robben is a primadonna and a drama queen.
They knew MEX would dominate any OT time and the Dutch were exhausted with the incessant heat & humidity.
So Robben had to do what he had to do.
The Mexican player did step on his foot and the was no reason for him to do so.
I’ve seen 4 different angles of this, and yes, foot was in but Robben MILKED IT.
On pins and needles with this Greece-Costa Rica OT....
Costa Rica advances on PKs after playing most of the match with 10 men.
Netherlands/Costa Rica should be a good game.
Gekas or ‘gidas’ — tough to see a decision on penalties. Greece had many chances esp. with the extra man, just couldn’t finish ...
Good Luck to Costa Rica vs. the Dutch next round.
Aren't they all; well, at least most of them?
The Mexican defender made a mental error; just as Robben made a mental error when he jumped over the sliding tackle over the sliding defender just before the water break. Had Robben not jumped a penalty would have been awarded for tripping and no one would have complained.
Netherlands by a score of 3-1; maybe 4-1.
No kidding. Diving/flopping/acting appears to be an unfortunate part of every game. It also appears to annoy a team and their fans only when the other team does it....(but not when their players do it)
