The Charbonnet-Labat Funeral Home in New Orleans has fielded dozens of calls lately in response to a growing desire for funerals in which the deceased are displayed in poses reflective of their lives, The New York Times reported Saturday in a feature story.
In recent months, memorial services for New Orleans socialite Mickey Easterling and local resident Miriam Burbank have drawn attention to the practice, the Times noted.

As far as I am concerned they can dump me in a shallow grave in the woods. Nothing to see here move along.

A celebration of the life of Mickey Easterling, a New Orleans philanthropist and party giver who died April 14, was held at the Saenger Theatre Tuesday evening April 22, 2014. The arrangements included a display of Ms. Easterling's body, sitting on a wrought-iron bench, with a Champagne glass in one hand and a cigarette holder in another. New Orleans has a tradition of funerals being more like celebrations, so I say let 'em do it if that's what the decedent wanted.
I worked in Funeral Service for three years. In south Georgia we wouldn't do that.

Degeneracy reaches no end point on its downward spiral. Ever increasing stimulation is required for the degenerate to maintain the same feelings of “aliveness.”.

personally I’m for the roast and toast, but this is nothing new, in the past many people had the deceased posed and they even took photographs with them. It just proves that history repeats.

Umm, remember the episode of The Twilight Zone where the astronauts landed and it was a cemetery?
And people were “buried “ like this?
Great TV but in real life? Not for me.

Although macabre, this is an old tradition.
The Victorians made a big deal of posing their dead, sometimes as if they were still alive, and taking pictures. Apparently, prior to photography, people would have portraits done of their dead.
There are countless videos on youtube featuring families with their dead babies. I haven’t seen videos of older children yet... but I haven’t been looking, either.

Off topic, but I was so pissed with "Forest Lawn" in the prep for my mom's funeral.....when she drew her last in a hospital bed, her head of course flopped down and to the side.
I guess the morts took their sweet time to get around to her remains, because the same 'flop' was evident in the casket.
That, and the fact that they stole one of the Death Certificates that I'd paid for (so they could get paid from the prepaid burial insurance), got me very, very nasty with many, many of their people.
