Vanity: Typical Google: Just link to commemorate D-Day

One needs to squint to see the small link. At least Bing has a photo of a memorial on one of the beaches. For a country that has given untold wealth to the founders of google they sure hate this country and its achievements.

I don’t know, but I think Google doing a Doodle for D-Day would have been a bit tacky. I have no problems with the link.

I switched to Bing - A different, beautiful, respectful picture every day.

Google - either nothing, or some sort of insult every day.

I still keep GoogleMaps as a link, because Bing Maps has some serious drawbacks. But the Bing search engine is better

Yup. This comes up every year on D-Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and December 7. Google just doesn't do Doodles for such solemn occasions. Nor should they - they're called Doodles, after all.

I find it tasteful. The absolute starkness of the page makes the link as unmissable as any doodle, and the underlying content far more profound and universal. A+

and, if you move your cursor over the picture on bing.com, little squares appear with links to stories on D-Day. There’s also a story in the pictures at the bottom of the page “on this day 1944”.

I’ve clicked on the Feedback link at the bottom of the page and thanked bing for using holiday appropriate pictures, think I’ll do so again today.

Thanks for posting this - I don’t use google, only bing and I thought the picture and related links today were very respectful.

I was astonished that the Google links depiction of the D-Day landing was an entirely American event. There was not a single reference to the British, Canadians or any other nation who landed fought and died that day. Oh, except the Germans. Shame on you google.
