Officers were able to corral the pig and return it to its grateful owner.
A fate better than that of Seaman Hornsby.

I had pretty much the same thing happen to me at my eldest son’s November birthday party back in ‘85. One of the 200+ pound pigs we had raised all summer escaped as we were loading her into the pickup box to take to the local abattoir. After several hours of fruitless chase, we decided to let her hunger help find her own way back to our place and proceded with the planned evening bonfire and party... I suppose some neighbour had seen the pig and phoned the police about the menace to traffic because as darkness fell, a squad care rolled into our driveway and SSgt Bull(yes) asked, “Are you missing a pig?” The RCMP officer helped me lure the pig out of the blackberry thicket across the highway and put her in the truck for her last ride.
Meanwhile, the boy had got the bonfire going real good... fortunately, everything worked out fine!
We still have laughs over that one!
Burning the chickenhouse down, not so much...;^)
